Valentine one consealed installation w/ pics
So I just purchased a 2008 G35xs sedan and I had no where to mount my concealed display from the V1, after some dremeling, soldering, and hot gluing I was able to finally mount it in the cup holder. Below are pictures of the installation. The reason I removed the entire shifter trim was because since the concealed display sticks out about a 1/8" past the ashtray the lid on the shift trim would not close. I learned this was because the inside of the lid was lined with some sort of rubber gasket, it seems to possibly be a fire proofing material. So I disassembled the entire shifter trim and removed the rubber piece which allow for extra room for the lid to close.
Then I took the concealed display apart exposing the guts, this made it about 90% thinner so it would allow me to fit it in the ashtray. Next I dremeled the lip of the display to allow it to fit evenly horizontally within the ash tray opening.
Once I had the fitment right I unsoldered the telephone jack from the board and re-soldered it using extension wires. This was done because the telephone plug is on the side of the display instead of the back, which is a dumb design IMO. You can see the result here: (I got a little messy with the hot glue to cover up the connection so wires don't cross)
I then attached a 8-inch telephone cord to the display and ran it through a hole i drilled in the ash tray. Once the cable was run through the ash tray I used the opening inside of the shifter trim to run the cable.
On the back of the shifter trim I ziptied a RJ-11 Coupler and connected the telephone cable that ran from the ashtray. This was done because if the shifter trim ever get removed again, you can simply disconnect the telephone cable that is run to the V1 hard-wire adapter in the fuse-box.
And here are the final results.....

Yeah, I really like the concealed display that is integrated into the mirror too. The only drawback is that you have to mount an additional mute button somewhere. By having the display in the ashtray the mute button is within easy reach from the shift ****.
