Anyone have a 9500ci in their G35?
I recently acquired a 9500ci from a friend (radar only. no shifters), and cannot find a good spot to mount the radar unit up front. I find it odd there are no good threads on this which still have active photos and decent info. The grill is really the only place it will have good visibility, but it looks like I'll need to fabricate some kind of mount. I know some say it's fine to mount behind plastic or a headlight, but I'd rather not.
If you have one, I'd love to hear how you did it and see some pics. I've got a sedan, but I think a coupe isn't terribly different as far as this is concerned. I'm also curious how you went through the firewall, but admittedly I haven't really investigated that much. I couldn't find a spot at a glance from inside, but didn't pull back all the insulation or look from the engine bay.

i have done this install including the shifters

Probably a little late to respond but just saw your thread
did you ever get it installed?
i installed mine behind the grill. the radar receiver can be behind plastic without affecting it. the shifters on the other hand cannot be obstructed
i used the mount that came with the detector and bought stainless steel nuts and bolts to hold it in place
the hardest part if you install under the hood is getting the wires through the firewall
that is what took me most of the time. I installed it over a long weekend but without the shifters the install time should be significantly less
have you decided on where you want the control module, display unit and buttons?
i needed a conceal install because of being in VA
i chose to put the display in the ash tray so that it could be closed
and put the button controls in the coin holder part of the cup holder
ive got a 06 coupe manual
i routed all of the wires to the control module and placed that and the speaker under the glove box on the passenger side.
i didnt worry about the dash light that comes with it... figured that was something i didnt need...
i placed the gps receiver in the back windshield next to the rear speakers
routed that wire under the rear seats and then under the foot plate on the passenger side... was able to conceal that wire all the way under the glove box and behind the dash
ill post some pics...

button control in cup holder
both display and control buttons
concealed display
concealed buttons
also i cut holes in the grill for the shifters to fit into. that was very time consuming
here are a few links i used to help with my install

i have thoroughly enjoyed the unit though... very tempted to do it on my wifes fx35 as well.
just not sure how the laser shifters will work since she has the laser enabled cruise control
any time i drive in front of her my rear laser shifter alerts. is actually a little annoying but at least i know the rear shifter is working
where did you get your 9500 ci?
just reread our initial post
to go through the firewall there is a grommet on the passenger side
you have to remove the battery and the compartment the battery sits in
its a fairly large rubber bubble
i can try and get pictures for you i think i still have them. maybe some of hte links above has a picture
i slit the grommet with a knife and then fed all the wires through the fire wall directly into the interior behind the glove box
for me i had to cut a fairly large hole because i had two shifter wires, the radar antenna so all of those together made a large bundle
i remember i had to take some tape off the wires that were already fed through the firewall and that was a pain
i then used RTV gasket sealant to seal the firewall back
i think it was just a couple of bucks for a small tube at Napa
then i used electrical tape to bundle the wires to the existing wires coming out of the firewall
it wasnt as clean a process as i was hoping for but have had zero leaks in the 9 months or so since the install
i used a coat hanger to feed the wires through.
thinking back though i fed the wires through one at a time because it was too thick to do them all together even though i did try to initially
i used zip ties to route the wires up to the radar antennae behind the grill.
i believe i mounted it just below the air filter
i had to drill 2 holes through the plastic for the bolts to secure the mount and then had to level it
sorry for all the separate posts here... trying to get to 100 posts so that i can list my OEM rays in the marketplace.
hope you are not getting emails for all these updates if so i apologize
