Any other DVD/mp3/NAV systems out there/on the way (did anyone go to CES)?

I've heard lots about the AVIC-N1, but as far as I know, its the only single din all-in-one solution. I have a 2005 g35x w/o Nav and I want to get this system, but I'm wondering if I should wait for something new to come out. Does anyone know if Alpine has anything in the works (maybe someone that went to the CES?)

The AVIC- N2 is on its way out, due in March I believe. My partner is at CES now so I will know what Alpine will have next week. The Kenwood double din unit is a really nice choice as well.

remami, I've seen the lower end Alpine 2005 models , but I'm waiting for the new 2005 models before I do my dash swap. Do you have any idea when the higher end 2005 models will be released??

yeah i've been reading about the N2 - the traffic seems like a cool feature, but i think its still going to have the same smaller screen and same lack of memory (really wish it could store nav data on a hard drive like the garmin ones so i could use the dvd/cd player). also its not going to have 1.173mm colors like alpine....i hope alpine jumps on the wagon soon

All the stuff shown at CES they say will ship in Feb but its usually in March if ever. We'll see. Yeah I wish Alpine would jump on the wagon soon too. I just put in a IVA-D300 in my Tahoe and I love the picture but the pre amp output is too low and the alpine navi and processor is way to expensive even at my cost. But again the picture is awesome and the pulse touch screen is pretty cool.

I don't want a touchscreen Alpine.. I want a higher end single din unit, the ones that crutchfield has listed are all the cheaper models.

ok.. we're halfway there.. Alpine did their CES announcements and listed all the headunits.. looks like I'm going with a 9855 or 9853 unit.. depending on price. They are using a touchpad thing.. probably to simulate the wheel on the ipod.

WOW, my first helping post.

I was at CES.

Pioneer is coming out with the AVIC-D1 which is a double din dvd/navigation system. Also the AVIC-N2.

I know you asked about headunits. But Clifford has finally made a good alarm. The G5 is due out may/june. The best thing about it is the remote and the range.

The only odd thing is that one summary of the press release mentioned the D-1 would lack DVD playback abilities, which doesn't make a lot of sense, as it is just the N-2 in a double DIN chassis from what I can see.

I think that some decent speakers and a D-2 would make a great looking and sounding system my future non-Nav '05 coupe!

Seeing as its illegal to play DVDs within the drivers view, I find it more suprising that there are so many headunits that actually make this possible. In the case of the N-2, maybe the D-1 doesn't support simultaneious output of auxiliary video to rear seat screens and the N-2 does like the N-1 did.

I dont think there are any changes

IVA-D901
The IVA-D901 Mobile Multimedia Station is a high-end DVD/CD/MP3 player with 7-inch WVGA monitor. This low-temperature polysilicon LCD screen has 400 percent more pixels (1.15 million) than conventional LCDs, resulting in higher resolution, better color saturation and higher contrast. Additionally, the picture is brighter in daylight and the viewing angle is wider.

The IVA-D901 has three auxiliary A/V inputs and two auxiliary A/V outputs, enabling consumers to add and control multiple components, satellite radio and DVD/CD/MP3 changers.

To meet the need for separate front and rear audio/video environments, the IVA-D901 has a built-in “Multi-zone Audio Video Controller." This feature allows multiple sources to be viewed and controlled through two separate zones of rear-seat monitors simultaneously, while audio and navigation can be used in the front.

Do not trust everything you read.

If the unit can read a dvd then it can play a movie. I talked to one of the Pioneer guys at CES and he said it can be done. But he wpuld not tell me how to bypass it.....
