Replacing my stock rears with Polk MM651, need some help

Hi Guys,

So I'm replacing my stock rears (non-bose) in my 06 coupe with Polk MM651 speakers.

I already noticed I will need some spacers which I have just ordered from zenclosures. I have a couple of questions:

1 - The Polks come with crossovers for each speaker, do I need to use the crossovers?
Sorry I'm still new to the world of Car Audio...By the way I will not be using an amp for now, just replacing my stock speakers with these.

2 - To power the Polks will I need to splice into the stock harness or is there some type of adapter that plugs with the stock harness and outputs the power wires?

Thanks!

The only reason you wouldn't need the crossovers is if you're bi-amping with high/low pass filters on the amps. So yes. you need them.

No adapter. Splice the wires.

Where is a good spot to put the crossovers? I haven't checked yet but I'm guessing theres not much space to put anything back there.

And for the harness, basically just cut off the harness and use the wires?

I would take it to a sound shop and let them do the install. Its not fun getting all the panels out of the rear seat. Just replaced mine and saw everything they had to do to get to the speakers and it didnt look fun at all.

For the rears in a coupe, you've got tons of space behind the panels to put them.

Yep, just cut and connect them (preferably with solder).

I actually have everything already out, it wasn't that bad...the bolts for the seat belts were kind of a pain but everything is basically ready now. Theres a really good step by step on here somewhere that I used.

Oh ok cool thats good to hear.

One last thing, should I use some type of velcro or something to hold the crossover in place or is there anything else I can use? I really would rather avoid drilling into the car, just doesnt feel right

Thanks!

The heat experienced inside the body panels of the car is probably too much for just about any velcro to reliably hold any weight.

Velcro combined with some good zip-ties might do it, but really, a couple 1/8" holes never hurt anybody.

Thanks Wrath.

So I received my spacers from Zenclosures and even with the spacers on, the back of my speakers hit the car. Do you think that's ok? I'm pretty sure there needs to be a bit of space between the back of the speaker and the metal of the car, but I may be wrong.

I thought Zenclosures would actually test fit their items to make sure they fit right but maybe it's just my luck with these speakers, although they seem to be pretty standard size.
