03 g35 coupe DD JDM or Metra

Hello everyone!

I want to double din my 2003 G35 coupe with oem navigation. I read through Wrathernaut's Double Din Shopping and Resource List and it says that oem nav people only have the option to use JDM.

Is this completely true or am I able to modify the metra to fit. And what makes it so that I can only use JDM kit?

I asked a lot of questions but I am just trying to make sure my double din project goes smoothly. Thanks everyone!

The shape of the Metra kit doesn't match the curves of the navigation buttons panel. Additionally, you'll have the metra buttons and the OEM nav buttons right next to each other, greatly amplifying how bad those rubber buttons look.

I was also wondering if I could just buy the jdm ac control buttons (just the button strip) and dremel the stock faceplate. Is this method possible? I would not need to buy a new faceplate then.

Are there any internal brackets required? I see people selling brackets and some say they are needed for double din but I thought there was already a bracket inside the car.

Thank you for answering all my questions!

I think you should save up and get the JDM kit. Metra kit doesn't do this car justice. It isn't even close! Just my $.02.

Is it okay for me to just buy the jdm controls, not the whole kit and just modify my stock frame?

I'm pretty good at using a dremel so I am not worried about that.

Thanks again for everyone's great support!

Your question is addressed in the FAQ of my DDin resource guide, but here's the relevant answer:
