Just check the screws holding the thing together closely for signs of the unit being opened and messed with.

you know how when you go to costco for just for toilet paper and you walk out of there with a big screen tv ? thats how i feel with this audio stuff. doing your homework is good but you quickly discover stock is not good enough. my wife thinks I'm obsessed haha. but I love my car and plan to keep it for a while. this may sound snobby but I won't let anybody touch it. when It was under warranty I would put a "do not wash"sign on the dash and now i do all the maintenance with help from the forum. thnx guys

I completely agree. whenever I do a full detail, engine included ,it feels like a new car to me and I baby it just a little more.haha it's weird. my brother who races alfa romeos, can't wait to get his hands on my car but no way. whenever I'm in the car with him it's 1 hand on the dash and another on the door handle .imagine what it would be like without me in the car. he most definitely would have it sideways almost immediately. haha

Used amps are usually just fine, subs *can* be ok, but I'd probably stay new there. Full-range speakers, I'd probably go new.
You can get the JL 300/4v2 for just over $300 on amazon. It works very well for 2-channel mode (how I have it set up). You'll need two RCA splitters if you're using this 4-channel amp in 2-channel mode (and for most other 4-channel amps), but they're cheap.
