Ok. I bit the bullet haha.

Ordered my head unit, door speakers, and amp.

Pioneer AVH-P8400BH
Hertz HSK 165XL
Sundown SAX-125.4 Amp for the doors
JL Audio 12W7
JL Audio 1000/1 Amp for the sub
ZenClosures box for the W7

Now I wait on UPS like a kid for christmas.

One question though, where is the optimal place to put the SAX? Under the passenger seat, or in the trunk running new wires?

Those things fail in small sealed.

Why fail for a sealed box? I was well pleased with the W7 in a sealed enclosure before.. I know it's louder in a ported configuration, but that's not the type of sound I'm going for.

Ok... so it's all in now. Wow.... it's louder than a m-f-er. My question now is with regards to x-over reccomendations. It seems as though even if I set the HPF on the head unit for the fronts down to 63hz there is a 'hole' in the sound and the midbass which seems to me like it should be up in the 80-150hz range. When I remove the HPF on the headunit it sounds perfect, but I dont want to push the drivers with unnecessary low frequencies handled by the subwoofer. Would you guys reccomend attempting to adjust x-overs on the amps instead of the headunit?

Also, has anyone heard of the AVH-P8400BH having random touch screen issues that require a reboot? I'm going to do some research on this independantly but wanted to throw it out here first just incase any experts here have comments.

 

The crossover section on the amp is far superior to the one on the hu so tune the crossover on there. Only use the HU for eq and time alignment

Did they bridge the 4 channel down to 2 channels?

Essentially, your mids should be highpassed at 80hz and your subs should play from 80hz down to their natural rolloff

63hz in a door would buzz too much.

 

Listening some more on the way home from work today with the sub gain turned down a bit and the EQ pretty much flat I think the tweeters were just a bit shrill because I had the highs turned up just a bit on the eq, and the gain was a bit high on the sub. So far only about 1 hour of listening time, and I've been reading on other sites that the hertz do benefit from a good week to two weeks (20-40hrs listening) of listening and I should wait until I've gone through that before I try and get everything perfectly adjusted on the EQ.

That said, I'm going to set the LPF on the HU to 100 hz for the sub, and the HPF to Off, and then manually set my x-over point at somewhere around 70-75hz on the amps and go from there... but so far I'm very impressed with the HERTZ... I could compare the experience to something like going from regular run of the mill home theater speakers to Klipsch reference series.

Next, I have to deaden the trunk and rear lid behind the rear seats because I was too lazy to do it this weekend lol.

EDIT: forgot to answer your question about the amp: I have it bridged using the supplied Hertz x-over mounted in the door (which are stuck to the FatMat with high strength double sided tape, although I had to remove a foam insert to accomplish this)
