Um, the metra kit is the cheap option. If you can't afford this much, you're really, really going to be screwed when anything mechanical brakes on the car.
Yeah, just find somewhere to mount the new radio, like the glovebox, and splice into the factory wiring while leaving the stock radio in place to operate the climate controls. I'm sure wal-mart carries duct tape and speaker wire to do it that way.
Or you could spend money and do things right... this is a luxury car, so things aren't as cheap as they are for an econobox.

Since I had my old unused board after the DD install, I crossed my fingers and cut it to see if any function would remain. Nope. If I had another extra one, I'd probably try and trace some of the connections to see if it's even possible.
