How to remote lock glove box
How to remote lock glove box
I was sitting in my (new to me) 04 g35x sedan the other day adjusting the rear view mirror. I noticed the three buttons along with the auto dim and off button.
My question is could it be possible to press one of the buttons on the mirror and then have the glove box lock? It sucks to have to stop my car and take my key out and then reach over and lock the glove box. I only have one key at the moment im waiting for a spare key and a key fob to come in the mail.
Has anyone else thought of something like this? Is it even possible to access/change the lock in the glove box?

You would need an actuator and wireless receiver to activate it. You could do it, but it would require some work. What do you put in there that require locking? Is it a hassle to turn the wheel while driving as well? you make it sound super tedious... >_>
Nah no one will really try it. It's a possible idea, but kinda a useless one. Rarely do people lock it. On top of that you wouldn't need a wireless router, you could hard wire it in. But you would have to completely open up the mirror. That's pain to do. If you know how to open a mirror you usually Schafer the mirror.
You'll need a 12v DC garage door receiver, something like this - http://aclickawayremotes.com/Liftmas...mhz/index.html
A transmitter for that receiver that the Homelink can "learn" from - http://aclickawayremotes.com/Liftmas...mhz/index.html
And a 12v DC actuator to stand in for the garage door - http://amzn.to/11auYTR
And something for the actuator to slide into on the glovebox door. Program the receiver to receive the remote, then program the homelink to emulate that remote. Have the receiver set to move the actuator from lock to unlock... this may require having the actuator itself trip a relay to switch the direction of the power going to it. Not terribly complicated, but you may need somebody with good electrical skills to determine the exact wiring.

My way's entirely too complicated too. I'd say just hide a momentary contact button that disengages the electric actuator that holds the glovebox shut. Easily done for under $10. However, that wouldn't meet the OP's desire to use the homelink transmitter to do it.
I just said how it could be done, not that it should, or is even a good idea.
