ported enclosures are for drivers (speakers) designed for ported enclosures.
the box size, port size and lenght of the port must be calculated and tuned
with the driver in place...
typically you must find out the Theile data for the driver
Fs = the driver's free air resonance
Qts = the driver's total Q factor
Vas = the driver's compliance stated as equivalent air volume
you cant just stick a speaker in any box with a hole in it and expect it to sound better
for the DIY's out there there are plenty sites devoted to this... with online calculators.. but you still need the 3 specifications
the technology is from the early 50's and hasn't changed much.

what he said... sealed takes up less space and sounds cleaner and tighter(more natural)....ported boxes take up much more space and add a MAXIMUM of like 3db.....IMO, its not worth letting the sound quality suffer for a tiny extra volume
