Based off the research I have done here I believe the G35 I just acquired is pre-wired for SiriusXM radio. Couple of questions about this.

I just add the SiriusXM tuner (999U9-NV003 or 999U9-NV004) and SiriusXM antenna (999U9-VQ006 or 999U9-VQ007), correct?

Are there any other things I need to complete the installation? What's the best place to get the best price on these items? eBay? Grubbs?

Would it best to buy an aftermarket head unit with GPS, Bluetooth, etc built in?

 

Just get aftermarket with bluetooth, no GPS. Use your phone for guidance and streaming internet audio instead of paying for an XM subscription.

 

Best option is to get the tuner and antenna used. I think they go for around $100 maybe less. I've had XM for 13 years now, so just stuck with it. I've added a USASpec adapter so I also have AUX and iPod inputs.

Aftermarket options are nicer, with more features. But these days it seems getting a JDM double din kit is getting hard and prices are skyrocketing ($400+ for JDM kit, Metra kit is cheaper but looks like trash).

 

Yeah, I really want to go the AM route. I have sent PMs to Rich@Grubbs and Ray@OC to check on the JDM kit but haven't heard back.

Do you know anything about ConceptzPerformance? Looks like they have the kit in stock.

I know it's discouraged, but I'm thinking I want GPS in dash as well. Is the Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX what to get? Looks like it's available for around $1k from Amazon.

 

I've ordered many parts from CZP. Since stock is getting low all around, I'd call and verify before placing an order though.

There's so many aftermarket options that I can't say what's best. I've been looking into the Pioneer AppRadio, it's a little cheaper and uses your phone for most of those apps.

 

I have one and it's nice, but annoying at the same time. You can't use your phone for anything else while driving, so you have to wait to get to your destination to answer texts/etc.

No opportunity to use any other device other then your own type (iPhone 5+, Android, separately).

 

Sent CZP an email. They have the JDM DDin listed for $350 which seems like a good price......if they have it in stock.

 

Have you hacked it? I don't remember that being an issue when my friend was showing me his. Other than needing to be hacked in order to do some things that he wanted.

I can't because someone so graciously updated my phone for me. Can't jailbreak the recent iOS. You can use your phone but it renders the phone portion of the appradios interface.

If you decide to go satellite, know these things: Pay attention to the model numbers; one is Sirius, the other is XM. While the companies merged, the satellites in the air remain the same and use different technology. Choose the right subscription for the tuner you have.

The model numbers you cite in original post are first generation units. They have no memory to buffer signal, so if you are behind thick trees or under a long bridge or short tunnel, sound will drop out. InfinitipartsUSA.com is showing the XM unit for $60. Don't know if it is in stock.

Don't use the OEM antenna. Get a modern one plug micro antenna and a FAKRA splitter that will combine the terrestrial and satellite signals. You will also need a FAKRA adapter to plug the antenna into the splitter.

I would double check the receiver you purchase. I have a micro antenna and it plugs directly into the receiver, no goofy splitter or adapter needed. It's an XM model, my car came with a Sirius receiver, but it was dead when I tried to activate it after purchasing the car.

 

Terk pretty much has the market cornered on the micro antennas. If you buy the model numbers listed, I guarantee you will need the antenna splitter and the adapter to be able to plug in the micro antenna.
