Dashboard problems
Dashboard problems
I'm looking at how I can fix my dashboard problems or where to buy a new one. The problems I'm having are that my speedometer does not go passed 60 mph and my fuel gauge is inaccurate i ran out of gas when it read half a tank 2 times. Just looking for a good dash kit or a way to fix if its electrical
Thanks
Thanks
You can source another used combination meter from eBay or a wrecking yard, there is also a vendor on eBay that will rebuild the existing combination meter but there is some downtime since you have to send it to him, then he sends it back once it's fixed. Have you tested the fuel pump harness for the proper resistance reading to verify the problem isn't just the fuel level sender?
In all honesty haven't looked to far into it because with the speedometer not working as well I just thought it would be the dash itself plus I'm way more of an electrical person than mechanical but never too late to learn plus its good to at least know your own car
Then you'll like this part since it's an electrical test, pull up the lower section of the back seat, unplug the harness on the top of the fuel pump, use your digital multimeter to read resistance across pins 2 and 5 (looking at it left to right) the resistance fluctuates from 3 ohms for a full tank to 80 ohms for an empty tank. Use your odometer to estimate when you're at 1/4 tank or so and make sure the resistance is correct. If the resistance reading stops at 40ohms (half tank) even though you know you have less then the problem is in the fuel pump. If possible just keep the back seat out for a week and use the meter and harness just to check fuel level, that way you won't run out of gas, btw 80 ohms is COMPLETELY empty so I'd refill the tank after you start getting readings of like 65-70 ohms since you know by that point that the pump is sending the correct signal.

Check out the factory service manual, section DI (driver information) it's on something like page... 19 or 20?? If you want to look up other issues the FSM starts at document FWD (Foreward).

Don't be afraid of sending the vehicle to Nissan (not Infiniti they're too $$) for a diagnostic if you get stumped, they typically find the issue for a 1 hour diagnostic fee which is about $150 and can save you a LOT of hassle dealing with mechanics that don't have the correct software tool that literally tells you exactly what the problem is.
Once you know the EXACT problem you can decide yourself how to proceed with repairs either by doing it yourself, a private mechanic, or just having Nissan do it.
