Are you running four speakers or two? If you are running a rear set, I would suggest getting a 5-channel amp such as Autotek's street machine series. It offers 75w X4 at 4 ohms, class AB and 250w at 4 ohms class X for the sub. If you need more power, it can run the sub channel at 2 ohms for 350w class X. These are real rated power values and not inflated like most companies do. As for a sub, Elemental designs, RE Audio, Adire Audio, and Image Dynamics makes excellent products for much less than JL audio.

Well I am pretty new to car audio as well I've only been doing this 6-8 months but I'm an internet junkie. Everyone has said more power is better. I've found that to be true. A more powerful amp will be able to deliver cleaner power to the speakers with less effort. As long as you supply clean undistorted sound to a speaker it can typically handle more power than they are rated. My point is i don't think 75/2 watts to the front is enough. I have 300/2 and without the sub and at times it was not enough for my Focal seperates. I orginally was going to with a 250/1 for my sub amp but decided for and extra $120 I could get a 500/1 and have the extra power if I needed it. Turned out to be a good choice as I am running my sub at 8 ohms for better damping. The JL amps are stable from 1.5 to 4 ohms. Meaning they will auto adjust and put out the same power for that ohm load. The JL W6V2 has dual 4ohm voice coils. Your only choice are to wire them in parallel at 2ohm or series at 8ohm. Every time you double the ohm load you half your power. So I effectively have 250 watts of power @8ohms that compliments the 300/2 in a well balanaced system.
It ultimately comes down to how much money you can spend. Keep asking questions and looking around the net. I woul dlook for some more power.

4080 enclosure is .85 cubic feet. If you're gonna use JL go with either a 10W6v2 or 10W3v2 subwoofer. If you use a W6 put some polyfiller inside as it requires .9 cubic feet of internal space for a sealed enclosure. With the enclosure bing .85cf plus the displacement of the sub, you are giving a little less internal volume than needed, but with some polyfill and more power than the 400 watts continuous, like a JL 500/1, you would be golden. I used to work in the car audio business and have been into car audio for half my life now, I'm 30.

The JL 10W6V2 requires .625 cuft., not .9 cuft. I received this information form the 10W6V2 owners manual and web site. If you consider that the woofer will take up .2 cuft., then the net air space will be perfect for a 10W6V2 without polyfill(.625cuft.).

driver displacement for the 10W6v2 is 0.068 cubic feet, and your box is 0.85cubic feet, so that leaves 0.782 cubic feet of air space. the speaker requires 0.625 cubic feet so that leaves 0.157 cubic feet of extra air, which shouldnt be too bad... right??

Maybe I'm just not keen to it, but my 10W3v2 sounds pretty sweet running 4 ohm @300W (which is the RMS recommended by JL for it) It hits plenty hard imo (I've seen the Alpine Amplifierlink on the HU hit 25-30A on some bass notes!

yeah it will sound good, but at the EXACT airspace, it will sound even better!

too much airspace and the speaker will be too loose, too little airspace and the speaker will be too tight.
i think im just gonna build a custom made box to spec...

I will give you and or anyone a free box if they can tell a diff. between a box that is + or - .157 cuft., especially in a car. Have you ever compared and plotted the frequency response of a air suspension enclosure that was + or - .157 cuft.? Even if there was a diff. would you trade that diff. for a square box or a box that is does not look as factory? You are also not considering that the environment plays a much larger roll on frequency response than .157 cuft. ever will.

All IMO of course, 4080

I Blew A 10w6v2 When I Hooked Up 2 Subs To A Single Jl 1000/1... Those Jl Amps Pump At Least 1400 Rms No Matter What Ohm. Trust Me, Get A Warranty If You Plan On Using That 500/1 With A Single 10w6... You May Regret It! Luckily I Got An Extended Warranty- They Replaced It But I Upgraded To 2 15's From Jbl's Competition Series. Try A W7 If You Want To Keep The Amp!
