just got back from the installers...

and they said the new pioneer avic-n2 wont fit into our cars easily. it would be x amount for the equiptment and install. problem for them is no mounting kit. well is there one? if so, could someone plz link me to a place where i can trust them to send it.

btw, any comments on the n2? i can get it new from ultimate electronics for $1400. thanks for the input guys.

i also did a search, but it was impossible to sort through all of the stuff.

There's also a few clever installs where people put it in the unused nav cubby. Look at some posts here.

The problem is there's a pretty good learning curve for the g35 installs, so if you find someone experienced you will probably get a better deal and better quality work. I know there's some places in the NY area and LA; otherwise I am not sure.

wow, thx for the info, but i'm not trusting any installers around here to do this. including myself. i thought the most complicated part would be to not having to custom make a face plate/kit, but i guess it goes much further than that. oh well, i'll just have to live without my nav. thx for the help though guys. i really appreciate it.

Nah...not really, if you are doing straight head unit exchange only, my shop had a young kid to take the dash apart? took him about 6 minutes to do that! no joke, he had never see an G before and took him less than hour to install the new unit, i was watching him the whole time. Just get that kit from j's garage and that took less than three weeks. I would suggest to you to get the changer if you are going with the AVIC, so you dont have to worry about swaping the disc.

Okay, but that car doesn't have factory Nav. Any chance that someone who has nav system can point out the differences between the two systems?

i've heard that there is no way to watch dvd's or operate the nav. unless the parking brake was applied on the new avic-n2.

every aftermarket DVD headunit has this feature... that's the only way for it to be "legal" to install it... now, if someone wanted to, oh i dunno, permanently ground the e-brake wire from the unit, it would work all the time. purely hypothetically of course

i had the N1 in my truck and i had the installer ground it out so that i could watch movies in motion.... just ask if they'll do it.. they might make you sign a waiver so that they aren't held responsible if you get a ticket...

I don't see why they would do that Lime...that would make more people NOT want to buy it...especially if it is hard to modify and tweak...

also remember that if you have dual climate control, your gonna have to take the circuitry from the old ac controller and put it on the new one.
