Audio System Upgrade (Bose) Questions
I am thinking of installing the Eclipse 6.5" Nav/DVD/CD screen in my G sedan but I have some basic questions that I am sure you guys can answer. I have read those threads on the Double Din and they are great, thanks for the info!
Anyways here they go:
1) If I install an aftermarket head unit does that mean I will no longer be able to use the bose amp that comes with the system? I will not be upgrading the speakers and I know the bose amp powers the 8 speakers in the car.
2) If I install the Eclipse head unit do I need a special wiring harness to connect the wires from the hear unit to the car. Also, does this wiring harness connect to the Bose amp if I can still use it?
3) When I do install the head unit do you suggest that I run power line and RCA cables in case in the future I want to install an externall amplifier. This would not require me to rip apart my dash again.
4) Any other recommendations would be great.

1) I think you can use it. Others have shown that it expects a balanced input signal with max signal amplitude of 2.2V coming from the stock HU. The shielding around the input wires needs to be preserved it seems to avoid noise (so you have to be careful when you splice not to short the shielding out - I guess).
2) I'm still using the stock HU - you are going to have to do a rewire if you cannot find a harness specifically for the eclipse-G35 combination. The service manual is helpful if you need to do this (color codes etc).
3) RCA cables, yes. You can run a power line later without dismantling the dash. But if you are going to be pulling up the side trims for the RCA wiring anyway, then by all means... Please note that many advocate running power wires down the driver side and signal wires down the passenger side (well, at least opposite each other to avoid noise). I think the stock power wire is on the driver side though.
Have fun!
