The Pioneer won't let you do DVDs because it is dash mounted - so it's a safety issue. I would be willing to bet that it can do it, it just needs a firmware flash or a minor mod...

it is california law as of january 2004 that the driver cant watch a movie or add a destination in the navi while driving...

2 ways to hack this (depending on the model)
1. ground the parking brake wire
2. add a switch to the speed sensor wire

It looks like AVN5495 Hard Drive based can search by phone number, but the AVN5435 DVD-ROM based can't.

Searching has been refined with numerous search modes offered for users to select from, including address with street name and number, points of interest, map searching, emergency, memory search including assignable sound tags and directivity to locations, previous location, intersection search by inputting two cross streets, freeway search with name and entrance/exit, searching by telephone number (AVN5495 only) and map coordinates.

I just got back from CarToys an authorized eclipse dealer down here in houston. The price on AVN 5435 is $1899 and AVN 5495 is $2399.

Also the AVN 5495 wont be available til mid may.

They also told me that it wont work properly with the bose amp and speakers. Are they just trying to sell me more crap than I really need to buy or is this true?
