I did a search on the kenwood DDX-8015, no matches. Also tried their site, still displays the DDX-7015.

Will the DDx-8015 have the same graphics as the KVT-915? I think this unit would be killer if it did!

It was either the ddx8015 or ddx8017 can't remember now, he told me about it over the phone.

If you want more info, just call them 1-800-KENWOOD.

That is definitely cool....
I'm sure something similar will be available to the U.S. the day after I receive the 5435.

I called Kenwood, they only have the ddx-6017 comming out this year. A newer version will be out next year from what the rep told me. The 6017 doesn't have the optical output like the 7015 does.

I think the Eclipse (both units) are a better buy anyway. I did call Eclipse last week; the AVN5495 will be SAT ready later this year. Also looking thru the manual, it seems you can adapt the steering wheel controls w/out buying a PAC SWI-x. Is this true?

I talked to tech support and I think the guy told me about the ddx8015 unofficially.

I really like both AVN's but I dont know if they're a better buy. The only thing's the AVN has over the kenwood is all-in-one design and perhaps a better screen.

Also the AVN with the hardrive is pretty useless to me. You can only rip songs from "CD" and can not copy mp3's. I think you can also convert mp3's to ATRAC3 and then transfer them.

To me this is just a hassle when you can buy (I already own) an ipod and connect it to your kenwood.

As for value I think the kenwood option wins.

The screen on the avn is awesome, but I was not happy about the features at all. Here are some things I don't like about the avn2454 (not sure what's changed between this and the newer model):

1 - selection of mp3 songs suck. in the menu, it only shows the first few characters of the filename. With my mp3's all the songs are named with the artists first, so in the head unit all songs are basically named the same, so i don't know file is what song until after I click it. It does show the song name, but only if you go to a different view (and that view only lists the current song being played). So mp3 playing is crap.

2 - Doesn't have RDS so when in FM mode it won't show what song is currently playing on the radio.

3 - as far as i can see, you only have 6 radio presets.

Also, am I correct in stating that Eclipse has yet to come out with a MP3 disc changer ?

1. When MP3 is being played, navigation operation will become slower. This is not
a malfunction of the system.

2. This unit has limitations on MP3 file standards and recorded media and formats that can be used. Be aware of the following points when recording MP3 files:

Supported standards : MPEG-1 Audio Layer III
• Supported sampling frequencies : 32, 44.1, 48 (kHz)
• Supported bit rate : 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128 (kbps)
• Supports VBR.
• Does not support free format.
• Bit rates vary for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2.
• Supported channel modes : stereo, joint stereo, dual channel, monaural

3. Use 128kbps or lower for the MP3 bit rate. If the bit rate exceeds 128kbps, there
may be sound jumping during MP3 playback.

Here is the online manual in case anyone is interested:
http://www.sirius.com/pdf/manuals/AVN5435_OMaudio.pdf

128kbps is really too low a bit rate. I pretty much wouldn't go with anything lower than 256kbps and prefer to go 320kbps.

Well it looks like the Eclipse 5495 has more NAV feature's and a newer mapping database than the 5435.

Excellent find BlackonBlack ...

I like the POI near & telco search options, how odd though that the 5495 doesnt support Sirius (yet I assume). Seems Im going to have to research the ATRAC3 format now.... Hmmm

On a side note, I'm very impressed with customer support from both Kenwood and Eclipse.

Thank god these jobs haven't been outsourced to India.............yet.

Does anyone know how Mp3 filing works with the Eclipse AVN5495?

So when you enter a CD it automatically records the contents onto the harddrive, is there a way to stop this from doing it automatically?

What happens when the harddrive is full, can you delete songs?

How do you shift through the songs, is it a file system or does it just list songs in order of how it was recorded?

Don't know about you, but filling a HD drive of 3000 songs would take along time! I think I would forget what I put in

Anyway, the AVN5495 is supposed to have Sirius later this year. The ones comming out now are not compatible. wait till late summer then they should be w/ sirius.

I prefer Eclipse over all of them, better buy too. When you add dsp, nav you are looking at 3000.00 I was quoted 2100 for the 5495. I do like the Kenwood--I just prefer it having the options and graphics like the KVT-915 has. ( I would like to have two diff. systems--one in the QX4 and one in the Z)

I know this is a dumb question being that we are in America... but I have a really huge selection of Japanese music. All of the filenames and the vast majority of the ID3 tags contain actual Japanese chars (I speak and read a good bit.)

Do any of these units support this? Or am I going to have to get a JDM unit to support the J chars and then have messed up radio reception?
