I'll eventually come back to the G35 coupe and make a box for larger subs. Right now I'm trying to get my hands on a G35 Sedan and an Altima so I can design boxes for them.

thanks mike

I need these other designs (I feel like a trader doing an Altima lol) to pay the bills and put some boost in my Z. I was on the Skyway Bridge this weekend playing around with my friends G35TT and I felt like I was sitting still. I'm amazed the power his car has.

Next time my friend with the coupe is over I'll take some measurements and see whats possible for a box housing 12" subs.

thanks
mike

Recess

Mike,
Looking at the picture, doesn't look like you build it to make the sub recess right (two layer of MDF). Do you take request for a recess sub?
Thanks
PS: Can anybody let me know if I can put the sub underneat the passenger and driver seat?
Thanks a lot in advance

Hey
The subs aren't recessed in the box. This design did'nt have enough height to do so.
thanks mike

is there anyone here in socal that has this box installed? i have some thoughts on it but want to hear some thoughts and see it in person. .8cuft total internal volume is definitely not enough space. when you're dealing with one 10" sub about .06-.08 cuft is lost to the volume that the sub takes up. 2 10" will sound far worse than a single 10". frequency response would be high... I'd say around 60-80Hz where you really want it around 35-40Hz. we did some test fitting yesterday and measurements on a coupe and we're sure that one 10" will hit harder/lower than a dual setup. single 12" upward facing may work pretty nicely as well. if you're willing to give up on some trunk space we can make the dual 12" would require about 2-3cuft of space to be built properly and sound good. but with our experience, a single 12" will be better than cramming 2 12" subs in a small space....

so anyone in my area hit me up... want to test our thoughts...

recommended for 10w6v2 = .625 cuft... 2 of those you should have at least 1.25 cuft... i dunno... definitely not getting the most out of those w6s IMO. you're only getting .4cuft/sub....

[edit]
Ok... so I got bored... rather than wait I ran a simulation design and got the following. Now I'm not saying it's a bad box... just depends on what you want to hear. Typical bass response for normal driving should be around 35-40Hz. For SPL... 50Hz frequency is needed. In this box, 2 10w6 would give you 60-100Hz for peak freq (what I was expecting). Normally we tune sub x-over to be at 100Hz or so. Anyways.. what this says is that 1) you're not getting optimum use out of some nice equipment and 2) it's definitely not getting low enough... but to each their own on what sound they prefer.

The other things you need to consider is that in too small of an enclosure you definitely have a few issues to consider. You may burn out the subs and overheat the coils. Because there's not enough air moving around this is a distinct possibility. Just be careful... you may prematurely wear out the drivers... $$$.

I must agree with FrizzleFry as I am installing new equipment in my car once my DD gets here from Japan. I am installing JL HO110R-W7 sub and enclosure, JL 500/1 amp, JL 300/4 amp, Alpine CDA-9855, 6 Farad Digital Hybrid Power Capacitor PLCAP60HB by Pyle, 2 sets for front and rear Evolution VR525-CSi (I know, they should be 6 1/2s, but wanted to ensure space / clearance isn’t an issue). Size doesnt matter per say, but volume does in relationship to speaker(s) and air pressure.

The JL Rep was onsite at the store discussing this product (enclosure) with the authorized dealer who was discussing my setup with the JL Rep; it is the first to use this box in my location. The authorized dealer Rep told me that the JL HO110R-W7 sub and enclosure will hit like three 10"s subs (figure of speech I think) and that I will be surprised how clean and clear it will be (not that he is biased hehe). I will post pics once the whole setup is complete. Anyhow, the point I wanted to make is the box for the 10" (JL HO110R-W7 sub and enclosure) is H15.25 in. x W32.00 in. x D19.25 in size wise which is roughly 5.4 cubic feet (fuzzy math, not exact calculation, just estimation). It is a huge box and it is ported.

Therefore, I would tend to agree with FrizzleFry that the number of speakers or size of speaker isn’t as important as the box having the correct amount of air / pressure to correctly equalize between the speaker(s) and the pressure related to box size / volume.

Here is the link to the box (And yes, my spare tire and all the trunk items are being taken out to fit this box and other goodies):

there will be... we're building a box right now that's going to be quite a bit larger... it'll come out a bit more. we're guessing about 3cuft of air space... not definite though and it may be a bitch to put into a car... but those are just design issues we'll work around it. give it about 2 weeks and we should have protos of this box ready for some more testing.
