Eclipse Avn 5495 vs pioneer AVIC-N2

The AVIC- N2 hasn't been too popular on this forum ...
From the other threads, I sorta know the pros of the AVN 5495 but not the AVIC-N2... can anybody who knows the unit well state the pros and cons of it?

Anyone have pics of the N2 installed? It looks like a single din(sorry if i'm using the wrong term).. Are double dins preferred over single din (flip out screens) because the single dins have motorized screens and tend to have more problems?

also if i got the N2 I do need need to get anything from japan? like the double din kit or A/C controller?

also, does the 5495/5435 have a parking brake sensor or a speed sensor so that dvd can't be played when the car is moving/ not in parking? Is it bypassable as of now?

Here are some of the differences...

AVIC-N2/D1 has fast mp3 playback. I heard bad things about Eclipse AVN and mp3 playback in the past, not sure if its better with the newer models.

AVIC-N2/D1 supports either XM or Sirius or you can have both (Will require 2 tuners and 2 antennas)

AVN5495 doesnt support SAT radio yet....

The AVIC-N2/D1 screen is crisp and VERY bright. Completely different than AVIC-N1. Screen also has Intelligent Dimmer Control.

AVIC-N2/D1 has a screen resolution of 336,960 pixels and AVN5495 has a screen resolution of 280,800 pixels.

Both NAVI's support search by phone number.

The NAV on the AVIC-N2/D1 has a 15GB database while the AVN5495 has 10GB database.

AVIC-N2/D1 uses the TeleAtlas database which provides the largest network of turn-by-turn routable roads.

The Eclipse AVN5495 is also HDD based which is supposed to make it faster. The AVIC-D1 is plenty fast to me so any improvment might not be much.

AVIC-N2/D1 has XM NavTraffic. Real time traffic flow and updates that integrate with the navigation. (Requires XM NavTraffic subcription)

The AVN5495 has 5.0v pre-outs and the AVIC-N2/D1 only has 2.0v.

The old AC board has the AC controls as well as the stock radio controls on it which you dont need.

I'm not an audio enthusiast so.. basically what are pre outs exactly? Is that where the audio information is transmitted to the speakers or something? and what's the advantage of having a higher pre out? better sound quality or higher volume?

how is the D1's map date? its current? when I had the N1's? its map date is couple of years behind, just wondering if the newer model have imporved.

I guess higher the volts out, lower the gain need from the amp, lower the chance of noise?...

I did a search on the avn5495 and found this... does this mean the 5495 doesn't need the pac swi-x?

talk show script?

preouts allows you to hook it up to the amp which is essentially the sound from the headunit to the amp

High pre-outs are only beneficial if you will be using an aftermarket amp to power your speakers.

If you will be using a harness and connecting you HU directly to your speakers, both of these are the same.

It may not need the pac swi-x but im sure it will need another kind of adaptor.

AVIC-N2/D1 does have a wired remote input.

Pioneer offers this in europe for wired remote units
