I have a V-1. It is three years old and it pays for itself a hundred times over. It saved me twice coming home from PA on a bussiness trip yesterday. I was coming around this bend on I-95S just into MD State line. The trooper was about a mile down and had an instant-on. He would have nailed me, as I was going about 80 at the time. My V-1 picked up the signal when he pointed to the cars ahead of me. I slammed on the brakes and passed him at 65

Then I was getting off I-95S onto I-895 when another instant on hide behind an under pass. Did the same and passed him right at 50 (posted limit) when he locked on me.

The arrows is the best feature on the V-1. Most troopers usually come from behind with their radar on. So if you are crusing down the highway, they will sneak up on you from behind. Have you noticed troopers usually go in excess of 80 mph on Interstate? They do it because they can scan more cars and catch speeders that way. Especially people usually concentrate forward 90% of the time.

 

Why wouldn't you account for cost? Where is that extra 100bucks going? A curcuit board and some flashing LEDs?

 

It telling you where laser is comming from and telling you how many lasers signals it's getting make those 100$ worth it P E R I O D!

 

V1 all the way...i have had it for a couple of months now...and i can't understand how i drove without one before.....so much info is given to you..and you can pick out what's crap and what can be a cop....

 

Because if you want the best, cost shouldn't be a issue...if you want to get a better bang for your buck, then sure, perhaps the 8500 will do the trick. If you have the extra cash though, V1 all the way.
You say it's some flashing lights. I see it as instead of slowing down until the radar detector stops beeping (which on these high end detectors can be for a while due to range), I can speed up the second the arrows point behind me in which case I passed the threat. Or if on the highway a traffic sign is giving false signals? I know what the pattern is...it's 1 signal, which goes to 2 signals when you get closer, then drops back down to 1 when you pass. If I get 1 signal, see the sign but then I get 3 signals? I'll know a cop is hiding near the sign somewhere. With a 8500, I'd imagine someone would get so used to seeing the sign and the detector going crazy to just assume it's probably the sign and not pay much attention. Afterall, 9/10 times it will be indeed just the sign...it's the 1/10 time I'm scared of.

Once again, I had the Bel 980 and it was GREAT. However, after having the V1, I can truely say if you can justify buying the best for another $100-200, then do it. Otherwise, the 8500 and the Bel will do very well as well.

 

Yup, I agree with every word you said. Thanx to the bogus count, you get to "learn" which areas give false detections and you get to know how many false (2 sometimes even 4) fake alarms you get driving thru known areas. If you know you always get 1 crossing a particular place and then one day you get 2, that might be a cop. Bogus count, PLUS arrows = V1 is the winner.

 

Actually, the 8500 will show you multiple strength bars indicating there are multiple sources and the strength of each source as well as whether it is Ka, K, or X.

 

multiple sources does not equal NUMBER of sources.

If you are still in doubt, why dont you get the x50, try it 20 days, return, get v1 and I bet you'll keep the v1.

 

Looks like the Escort X50 came out in January of 04. I wonder what the product life cycle is for each model? Anyone have a guess?

 

You do realize that even though two sources use the same band, they use different frequencies, right? Otherwise, source A would be reading the signal from source B and vice versa.

 

Yes I know. If two Ka bands are the source, the V1 will display only the Ka light plus the arrow and the number 2. If it has a K and Ka, it displays #2 plus arrows and the biggest threat is pointed by the flashing arrow.

No way x50 can beat that.

 

Then the ESCORT SRX SR7 take the cake!!! I mean cost isn't an issue.....

You get more than one signal the old one would get smaller and the new one stronger. More than one at a time.
