I am joining the club of the Double Din Kit Conversion. I bought my 2005 G35c 6MT about a month ago and wanted to upgrade the stereo. So I went out and bought some equipment.

Here is what I am installing in it:
1. One special JL Sub and Enclosure HO110R-W7
2. One JL 500/1 Mono Sub Amp
3. One JL 300/4 Multi Channel Amp for front and back component sets
4. One Pyle 5 Farad Capacitor (Red Line) PLCAP50R
5. Two sets of JL VR525-CSi component sets for front and rear (Not doing 6/9 or Coaxial in rear)
6. One Alpine CDA-9855 head unit
7. One Alpine 6 Disc MP3 / CD changer CHA-S634
8. One Peswix Steering Wheel Control Unit
9. Dynamat bulk pack (do trunk, doors, floor, etc...)
10. * Thinking about upgrading the battery to the Optima Yellow Top 51R (waiting to see how it turns out first)
11. Plus the Double Din Kit JDM
(Edit) 12. Added JL amp and speaker kits.

The car went into the shop today and the local installers are having a field day and I don’t think they or I had any idea on how hard this was going to be to install. Today was spent just trying to get the Sub enclosure into the trunk… The sub enclosure fits in the trunk per say the measurements, however the angles and entry size into the trunk isn’t conducive to allow it to enter the trunk. Therefore, what had to be done is to get the sub enclosure in through the inside of the car via the rear seats and the use of a crow bar and jig saw. Starting to look like an episode from MTV West Coast Customs, but the good news is it works and fits now, bad news is very limited space in the trunk (even with the tire and all the extras removed). Tomorrow we begin the false floor and other work around the sub enclosure and design of where to put the amps and capacitor (exposed for show). We thought about fiber glass work, but at this point we don’t think it will look all that great, but we are working through our options. I hope to post some pictures soon.

 

Ace the cap... do't need it with "slash" amps.

You're going to have a field day with the Glidetouch on the Alpine 9855. It's not very user friendly.

 

OK, here are some pics; still much more work to be done. The trunk will get worked on tomorrow which will include taking all the carpet out and making it look like the box isn’t really a box and integrate it completely into the trunk with the amps, cap, etc. Plexiglas will be used for the amps with cooling fans and possible some LED sound sensitive lights. Sure hope they know how to put all those panels and seat back in ...j/k my G was look somewhat like that few months ago...its gonna sound awesome!

I have pix of my old system...lasted a month. changing the whole thing out. taking pix of my build today. Here are some old ugly pix of my old system. Actually the plexiglass was there so it would reflect blue neons my guy put on it. The whole amp was carpeted too. But you could see the face...

 

Well, its day three and still not done... The trunk installer didn’t show up... And to boot, I think the installer messed up on the Double-Din conversion when putting it back together (seems not to be flush).

Due to the amount of money I am paying, I would think they would get it right the first time, time to have to redo the dash / console.

 

So how much will this project end up costing you? Looks expensive.

 

Looking around $4000 for the total package (equipment, parts, and labor).

 

Soundz like a hefty amount of money. U got the audio bug...you're stuck with it. I got it too. Bummed. I'm in it for like $6000 without labor already....where do you live anyway...?

 

I live in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia and I do have the audio bug. I am sure this is just the start (until my pocket book recovers). The installer is redoing the head unit / dash as it doesnt fit flush so they are keeping it another day. But, I rather let them keep it another day and get it right then spend the rest of my days in it not liking it. Anyhow, I sat in the car on a test tuning and it is amazing!.

 

I dont think is the installer mess up the dash, you are like third person this week, who have same issue with the dash peice being 1/4~ish inch to long! maybe is the bad patch form Japan.
