Minor Sirius reception issue -- normal?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find it...

Recently took delivery of a new '05 coupe with Sirius radio. The reception is normally good and I love the variety -- this is my first SAT radio.

I am sure it is normal to lose reception when pulling into a garage, etc. I assume there has to be "line of sight" path between the car and the satellite. However, I notice that occasionally (say, once or maybe twice every 10 miles of highway driving) the reception will be lost briefly -- maybe a second of silence -- then return. This occurs when there are no obvious problems like over-passes, tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, or the like -- just cruising down open interstate in Florida.

Is this normal? I have had loaner / rental cars with XM and never noticed this happening.

That’s odd. I installed my Sirius radio from a dealer kit myself and I've had it for a few months now. It’s extremely rare that it will drop without an obvious obstruction. Before I would assume its problem with your unit I would see how often it occurs on different highways and areas if possible. There might some type of interference on that highway; its also possible that there are an unusual amount of solar flares, but those shouldn’t last much more than 24 hours.

It has been about two weeks, with regular but unpredicatable drop-outs for half a second to a second. No problems with AM, FM or CD.

Hm, how long can you hear the radio when you pull into your garage? It should stay on for 2-3 seconds before it cuts out.

You may need to take it into the dealer; they can swap the sat box in about 10 minutes. YOu may have a bad box.

From the time the antenna passes under the lip of the garage opening, I might have another second or so of reception. Definitely not three seconds.
