I went with XM. I liked the equipment (both OEM and aftermarket) available for it better (especially when I purchased XM, Sirius has really gone a ways in closing this gap). And while I would have liked Howard Stern, I didn't like the fact gay/lesbian channels on Sirius.

I have not been able to give XM a proper evaluation, but I like Sirius overall so far. They have a good music selection and Sirius seems to be far more aggressive than XM in recruiting talent, with Howard stern as their prime recruit. I'm in my car over an hour a day and I hear a lot of repeats on Sirius lately. It seems to stem from their "request lines" where people always seem to call in the same songs. I would rather they periodically pull something unique more often. I'm not sure how XM is in this arena.

I thought XM 'music' channels are commercial-free just like Sirius (although not self-promotional-free); pls confirm, tx.

XM Music stations are commercial free. The only thing close to a "commercial" on a music station is either station identification (XM "musical tone" followed by something like "top 20 on 20") or a "DJ" talking between songs like "That was so and so who recently released an album called so and so. Hey, tomorrow we are doing a live sessions with band XYZ on 90s on 9, so be sure to check that out. Next month are are having so and so in here as well." Real quick blurbs, and they don't both me, I find them interesting.

Now on non-music stations were commercials are normally heard, there are commercials. For example, FOXNEWS. Fox News on XM is simply the audio feed of the Fox News cable TV news channel. Because Fox News Cable TV has commercials, there are commercial breaks. You do not hear the same commercials you would normally see/hear if you were watching FOXNEWS on TV. Instead you get really stupid/boring commercials, often times Trucking Companies advertising the need for Truckers and how their company pays more per mile and lets you be home with your family more than any other company.

Or you'll get commercials on how to increase your "man size".

I don't really mind these either, I just switch to a music station for a minute or two and switch back.

Opie and Anthony on XM Satellite radio. They were the only reason i got xm in the first place. But after about a year I don't think I can live without xm.

I've heard XM is majority owned by Clear Channel. Why support "the man" ? Sirius is amazing.

XM had the big advantage and ended up blowing it, so F 'em.

And more importantly, as was pointed out in the first reply, Sirius has Stern.

I'll be picking up a Sirius Starmate Replay ST2 within the next couple of days.
