DigitalWheelz 2005 G35 Screen (Delayed)

The first DigitalWheelz 2005 G35 Screen Housing was installed today. The good news is we were able to get the housing installed. The bad news is that it was very very cold out today and we very nearly froze to death doing it. The worse news is that there is a slight problem with the design. The screen's frame which is the same used for the 2003/2004 design sits about 5 mm too high. This makes it look a bit out of place and makes it impossible for the latch to work. I am having completely new frames cut, but this means that unfortunatly it will be another month or two before they are released. Aside from the issue with the frame though, the other new parts came out better then expected and fit very nicely into place.

I have attached a picture and a dark video of the screen in action. Note that the only way the screen could be installed was by drilling an extra hole in the frame and it still sits up a bit higher then it should, this is what will be fixed in the new revision. Better pictures may be posted tomorrow when there is better light.

Special thanks go out to TerryW for loaning me his car.

thanks for taking the time to to work on it in the cold Chuck, we were out there for ours uppon hours freezing our behinds off. it looks great and the main housing fits perfectly and the viewing angle is perfect. shouldnt take long to get the screen housing adjusted, but for now it looks great from the drivers perspective, the gap dosnt bother me.

Yes. You remotely move your hand over to it, pull it out and latch it in place. Then you remotely put your hand back to whereever it previously was j/k though... it's manual

Great to actually see something happening here. I'm dying to get this for the G. Have you done any driving with it installed? Is it firmly mounted or still too 'beta' to say?

Also, I'm guessing that, in the video, there are no cable connections made?? IE: how does it move with vga attached?

Looking good, though.

The prototype install should be fully working other then the fact that it is too high. The latching mechanism was improved over the 2004 version and was holding firmly.

The cables are thin and flexible and simply move with the screen.

Don't suppose there are any updates?

I almost have the computer itself built, so as soon as finish that, I'll be wanting to do the screen...

I think the DigitalWheelz crew is off at CES with their new StreetDeck product. I would shoot them an e-mail re: an update or wait a few days till the show is over.

There was a couple delays at the machine shop aquring the right material for the revised screen frame, but it should be well into production by now, I would hope it will be done before February.

We are at CES right now launching our new streetdeck product http://www.streetdeck.com. We should be releasing a special G35 edition of StreetDeck soon after we get back for the 03/04s and should be immediatly available for the 05/06s once the screen is done.
