Instead of MDF, go get yourself 4 Metra 82-4300 spacer rings. They are 1" thick and made out of heavy ABS. We use them all the time. We have found that they hold up better than MDF in the door, where the ring/speaker assembly is exposed to alot of moisture. You can simply add a bit of Dynamat to the ring to make it super solid. You can pick them up at most CC stores for around 12-15 bux a pair.

Interesting. These metra spacers match up with the factory bolt locations on the coupe door panel? Or do you have to dirll your own holes?

nm, looks like they are just rings that you have to drill. How do you know the diameter matches the diameter necessary in the g35 coupe? And how do you know the inner diameter is the proper size for your aftermarket woofer?

Try doing a search and you should come up with something. Also maybe give SI_G35Coupe a shout. He did some for a few of our buds. Click the linky to see what he did on his coupe.

made some out of mdf for Dynaudio 7" (fits in 6.5"). not to difficult to make and can be fit to any depth or opening size.

You guys are only remembering to space the magnet. You also want to snug up against the back of the door panel with precise thickness and foam tape.

I use the 2x2 3/4" birch plywood panels from Home Depot and spray paint them after cutting. Depending o the car and speaker, I might use 1/4", 1/8". or 1/2", along with an ABS ring or the grille ring for the speaker.

Much more water resistant than MDF, and much higher performance than those plastic rings.

Regarding the Metra 82-4300 spacer rings, I'm in California, what's a CC store?

--

CC= Circuit City, figured it out! (Sorry just a noob)

Also, do you need to mount foam tape to be back of the magnet so it is connected to the rear door panel?

you attach foam tape to the top of the spacer rings, to snug them against the door panel. You don't mess with the magnets at all with foam tape.

Yes you have to drill. We use them in the Infinti Gs and Nissan Zs that we put the Infinity Kappas in. They fit most 6.5" speakers. You may have to trim a little for some woofers.

Is the spacing of the holes in the Z as same as it is in the G?

built my spacer to exactly 1" thickness so that it would mate up, as stock, with the door panel. 5/8" weather stripping for tight seal.

I agree, but as soon as it gets wet it will swell up and start to deteriorate. If I was going to do a multi channel high dollar system, I would build the spacers out of MDF and then dynamat them. However, for the people that are doing the Kappa upgrades or just a simple upgrade, the Metra spacers are more than adequate.
