Harman/Kardon Drive+Play (Ipod control) PICS ADDED

Getting it installed as we speak with FM Mod (The one that connects to Antenna). I will post pics when I get my car back. This is being installed in my 2003 Sedan G35. Should be real nice looking when done. I saw pictures of this installers work of this product in other G35's and WOW!

Link to Drive + Play product: http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/default2.aspx

Pics may have to wait til morning but I will get them up ASAP.

Brian

interesting option - connecting directly to the antenna. i wonder how the quality compares to PAC. probably still not good, because you're still going through the FM tuner, even though it'll be better than is using FM transmitter.

OK, snapped a few pics tonight. They did a great install and it sounds incredible (Even though it is a wired FM Mod.) It also has an Aux. input on the unit so I had the installer run a RCA cable to my glove box also for future expansion (I can plug my MyFi into it!) Unit is $199 at Circuit City, install was $50.

I read a few negative reviews on this product when it first came-out a while back. I am curious to see how you like it after you've had it for a few weeks. Some of the reports indicated that sometimes the display does not show the songs or the control does not control the iPod when the car is turned-on, and the users had to turn the car, iPod or this thing on-and-off a few times to get everything to work. Maybe Harman/Kardon has fixed all the problems and now it's solid?

The big benefit of this compared to the PAC is the big LCD display. The negative of course is the use of FM modulation instead of a direct connect to the car stereo.

Thumbs up

Sweet install, I've been reading more and more about this product in magazines and the reviews seem positive. I'm really gonna consider this, once i get my ipod.

Well, I drove around and played with it a bunch today and have had 0 problems. No problems with song titles on display, no problems at all.

I'm doing the same install into my 05 sedan. Just waiting for the wired FM transmitter and antenna adapters.
I'm going to put the display inside the pocket door. I'm going withe wired transmitter since I also have the factory XM radio.

Brian, do the HK display podcasts?

Nice pics Brian. Got a few questions as I'm thinking about getting it too.

What mode is the ipod hardwired to ? i.e. fm / sat / e.t.c. ? I'm presuming there's none of that wireless fm transmitter stuff.

And how much does that wiring install cost ?

The Drive+Play offers three options for 'hook-up' to the car stereo. Wireless FM (sucks), wired FM antenna modulator or AUX RCA. I have an 05 Sedan with factory XM radio, so I the first two options would work. Wireless FM sucks in my area. For wired FM I purchased the Harman/Kardon wired FM modulator and a Scosche Nissan diversity antenna adapter (female and male). You need the HK modulator since the unit uses a 3.5mm plug for the antenna. Check out www.cardomain.com, they carry all the items.

I mounted the control dial on a proclip driver side mount and the display on the cubby hole cover.
