Pioneer AVIC D1

Ok got it for x-mas. Now I am having installed at ABT electronics near Chicago they are top notch. They will not do the lock out trick cause of liability issues. I was thinking of once it is in if it is too bad I will pull it out and just disable the lock out. So my question is this. Any one have it with the lock out not disabled and how do they like it? Are the only pros to by passing the lock out is reroute while driving and DVD playback?

I have mine disabled and like it so much better. I think its kind of pointless not to create or modify routes once you're on the road.

Well, they're not top-notch, but they're OK for a chain.

We sell ours with the lockout not disabled. We have had everyone like it but one customer, and they exchanged it for an Eclipse AVN because they wanted a good Sirius user interface and the Pioneer one isn't, yet. XM is OK, sirius is kludgy.

Did you just add the extra wire to the harness and ground the parking brake and the extra wire? Can you watch DVD while driving now?

Any recommendations for the Chicago Land area? How many hours should they be charging?

Did you get the XM tuner for the real time traffic NAV ? If you did is it worth it?

incorrect - that's not how it works. PCB-level mod.

Its just an extra wire that you pull out of the harness, and ground along with the parking brake ground. Once you do that, you'll be able to operate NAV, or watch DVDs while you're driving, although I havn't tried that yet. There's a DIY with pictures here:

Yes this what I was talking about. I am not sure what PCB Mod is than?

How do you like your IPOD interface?

Nope, no PCB mod needed at all. Re: the Ipod interface. The interface isn't all that great. Its limited to 8 characters or so, so you don't get full titles. Its not as easy to browse through your music as an Ipod, but it gets the job done. You can easily just set up playlists to simpify things. Overall, I still love it because the sound quality is great (compared to those AM/FM transmitters/tape deck adapters), and it keeps the Ipod charged at all times. Plus, its cool to have your Ipod hidden in the glove compartment, and control everything on the touch screen.

Thanks for all the information. Are you happy with the nav features? Do youfind it to be accurate?

ABT is not a chain... One store does not qualify as a chain. They do however have 12 bays...

The good thing about ABT is they will be around for just about ever, unlike many of the smaller stores. If you have a problem with the install 5 years from now, they will take care of it.

I did mine in about 6 hours from start to finish in my garage. D1, XM tuner, steering wheel controls and back up camera. If its just the D1 it should be about 4 hours...

Did you modify the lockout?
