iPod wont turn off!
I have an iPod Video with the PAC-NIS2 and the XtremeMac Car/RCA Cables. Is there a way to make the iPod turn off automatically when the car is turned off? The XtremeMac Carcharger & RCA cable turns off when the car is off since its powered by the 12v cig lighter, but the iPod keeps playing (obviously with no sound). It's quite annoying to have to always hold down the play button on the ipod everytime i get out of the car.

yeah, i have my ipod hardwired with the PAC-NIS and the Belkin Auto Kit (all neatly hidden away behind the dash). When I turn off my car it pauses, and like anish said, it'll just go into sleep mode after being on pause with no activity. Once I start the car again all I have to do is hit Play and it will resume where I left off... I think this only applies to 3G+ iPods though, or perhaps a firmware update on the older models will add this functionality.

This might be a difference between the 4G ipods and the video ipods. I have an alpine CDA-9835 with a KCA-420 Ipod adapter. with my old 40GB ipod, everything works great. With the video Ipod, the ipod keeps playing until the battery dies after I turn off the car. The next morning the Ipod is dead. My solution at least for now is to keep using the old Ipod in the car, and the video ipod to carry with me.

My 3G iPod with PAC unit does not turn off when the car turns off. It will keep playing if you don't pause it. That is how it reacts to any power source I've used. For example, if it's plugged into my laptop, receiving power and it's playing, it will not stop when unplugged. I think that's just how it is. It would def be cool if it did but it doesn't bother me too much. I've done all the updates too.

To give you some hope but perhaps not the answer, it has to do with the charging device, not the power it provides.
To explain, the normal behavior of an iPod is not to pause when power is removed. On my mini, the backlight will turn on but that's it. Some after market charger manufacturers, probably most by now, have figured out a cleverly simple way to accomplish this desireable feature. Is has to do with connecting a 500 kOhm pull-down resistor on pin 21 to ground. What this actually does to the iPod is engage the serial port. The pause is a side effect, but luckily the serial port mode isn't enough to keep the iPod from sleeping. I'm not entirely sure how Belkin and others do it in application. It probably floats the connected ground high when powered, so the resistor appears only when power is removed. Anyway, I knew about it before I bought it and the fact that it worked was enough. The unfortunate limitation is that 'Play' cannot be accomplished in the same manner.
To prove it for others, use your same charger that currently pauses, but plug your dock into it and put your iPod in the dock. Since the dock is not pin-to-pin (Pin 21, line-out, etc... do not pass through), the pause feature no longer functions, but interestingly, your iPod pauses when you remove it from the dock.
