Cop Scanner?

You can easily read through these forums and see what radar detectors are preferred by forum members. There have been some very spirited debates in the not-so-distant past.
As for scanners, they are not very helpful as far as trying to avoid getting pulled for something- but they are rather fun to listen to. I have a Uniden BearCat something-or-another that is a little larger than a radar detector in size, and scans all sorts of frequencies. I had it in my 97 mustang on the windsheild next to my Cobra $50 radar detector. Needless to say, those days are behind me
If I was going to install a scanner again, I'd probably use the same BearCat that I used before, just because of it's size.

You have another option if you are in a state that does not allow them. Get your Amateur Radio Licence. If you are a ham, you have a FEDERAL exemption to carry a transceiver the picks up police frequencies in addition to ham bands. The test is easy now, no code.
