Sound proofing...what to do
I just bought a bulk set of dynamat for my coupe. I was wondering what would be the best way to go about sound proofing. Shoudl I use it all on just the doors? Should I put it on the doors and around the rear 6.5 as well. What about the trunk....woudl it make sense to soundproof there, I would lvoe to get rid of some raod noise as well as increase audio peformance

Doors would be first. Some put it on both the inside of the outerskin of the door as well as the frame. Next I think would be the floor of the trunk. Those 2 are the easiest areas and would be effective. The roof and the floor of the cabin would help a lot but those involve a lot of work.

Hope you have a lot of time ... doing a project like this takes a loooong time. Plus once you have things like the door and trunk apart, you might want to dynamat everthing (since you have everything apart already).
... It's been 1 week and counting on my fiancee's G35, thank goodness she has been patient with me so far
To answer your question I would do the doors, for sure (see other posts that people have written up). With the doors I would do 2 layers of sound proofing on the inside of the outer skin. It would save you some time if you remove the windows ... (PM me if you have any questions on that process, FYI removing the window was easy, but realigning it was the trickier part). Also do the area around the speaker opening (both inside and outside).
As for the rest of the car ... the trunk would be a good place ... just strip out the trunk and go to work on the floor and do the lid of the trunk and brake light area. If you have time you can go to the hardware store and get some home insulation and stuff that in the hollow cavities around the wheel wells, brake light area, and into those little holes on the trunk lid (on another post someone filled the trunk lid with spray foam). I myself would opt for stuffing it with fiberglass insulation, just incase I need to have some paintless dent removal done on the trunk, they can still get their tools in there.
Hope that helps
