The "best radar detector" is quite subjective. I don't deny that the tests show the V1 has the best detection ranges, etc. But both the V1 and the X50 are going to go off well in advance of a true threat, and I verified this myself with both units. So then it comes down to your personal preferrences on the looks / interface / sound / price / etc.

And the X50 is firmware upgradeable. They're free for the first year, and Escort sells a 2-year extension for 3 years of upgrades for $30. In fact, both the X50 and V1 use virtually identical processors. I cracked both open and looked around when I had them. Anything but a firmware upgrade for the V1 is in the hundreds of dollars range.

 

I don't understand how I am bias when the companies who tested the radar aren't biased except one that doesn't sell the V1. lol

My girlfriend is probably the best detector out there. Not that she sees the cops and alerts me, but instead I hear this horrible screeching sound whenever I go more than 5 mph over the speed limit... but only when she's in the car... it's weird. For a while I thought the screeching could be something with the car, but then I realized it only happened when she was in the car and everytime I mentioned it to my friends they laugh at me and tell me my last car did it too. They call it "her voice." Dunno what that means but it makes speeding really painful

 

You are correct the V1 is too sensitive, I am tired of detecting every cop every time instead of just detecting them some of the time like people do with their X50 and getting a ticket. The fact is that the X50 comes to you brand new with POP detection turned off for a reason......because it falses too much. The V1 is not falsing if it picks up X band or K band from a door opener...it is doing its job as a "radar" detector. The X50 lowers its sensitivity so you will miss alerts from quick pulls on the radar gun and that is a fact. The V1 will also get falses from laser-guided cruise control on cars but that is real laser not a false. The X50 doesn't have this problem most of the time but then again, it will not detect laser 100% of the time like the V1 and it doesn't even detect a laser gun in stealth mode.

You can blab about how your X50 is better but I have video that shows the true champion.

Here is a link and video of the V1 alerting to radar quicker than the X50 and sometimes the X50 didn't alert to the radar at all. They are quick pulling the radar gun's trigger and the X50 is filtering it out and the V1 is picking it up every time.

RadarKing, what does the V1 do poorly? Can you describe its flaws? What are its weaknesses?

When did I ever say this...again, I'm sick of repeating myself over and over...I don't care what anybody else says. The original poster asked what people out there like and I gave my opinion about what I like...when did I say that its proven the X50 is better...I said I like it better...GET IT RIGHT!!!!

And for the record, even the cheaper detectors can pick up radar pretty decently nowadays, which is why less cops are using radar. Plus I'm not always speeding and don't want to get annoyed every 5 seconds by false alarms.

And I don't know why you keep mentioning X band...I don't think that is even used anymore. All the cops in my area pretty much use laser, so for me radar detection is pretty much useless...which again is why I chose the X50.

I have not found one video on the internet showing the X50 beating the current V1....because they don't exist.
