Aftermarket Headunit w/ stock bose speakers?
Hey guys, i got my g35 last week and want to get an aftermarket head unit in it. I was going to order the Kenwood DDX 7017 since my buddy had the 7015 last year and I liked it a lot. I've seen all the posts about installing the double din kit and ac controller to be able to get an aftermarket deck in so i know about that. I've tried searching about using aftermarket deck's with stock Bose speakers and havent seen anyone say "yes it works, or no it doesnt work", yet the majority of threads had people doing everything (HU, speakers, and sub) all at once.
Now what did you guys use for wiring kits, and is there a way to hook it up to the stock bose speakers for now, or do I have to replace all of the speakers to get an aftermarket head unit to work as well?
thanks,
Martin

I ran the sotck HU with an aftermarket amp on the stock speakers, and it sounded like trash. In essence I was removing the equalization the stock Bose amp places on the speakers and thus flattening the signal going to the speakers. You'll basically be doing the same thing if you swap in an aftermarket deck and power the speakers off of it- and my opinion (from personal experience) is it sounds god awful. Now I guess you could run an aftermarket deck, leave the stock Bose amp in and run the stock speakers from this... I can see how this could create somewhat better sound, but I I think the additional FEATURES you'll get with the aftermarket HU would be the only reason to swap the stock HU for an aftermarket one (while keeping everything else stock)... SQ definately should not be the driving factor for such a swap.

) i figured i go that route with the player as well. DVD will be kind of cool, but i know i wont be watching movies much while driving :P. Ideally, i'd like to just run the signal to the stock bose amp, and have that take care of things to the door and rear speakers. I am planning on just doing the HU, 4080 box with a 10w2v2, and a JL 250/1 amp. Then tune all the bass out of the speakers so hopefully they can hold up to just doing mids/high for now. I think i might be kind of spoiled tho, last car I had I found a set of Boston Acoustic Pro's and xtant 4 channel amp hidden behind the rear paneling that the previous owner didnt even know about :P We'll see how this setup works out.
I'm not a crazy audiophile like some people, and don't need let my entire block hear what i'm listening to. I just want to be able to play a decent mix of hiphop/techno/rock mp3 mixes and pop in an occasional comedy or music video dvd on roadtrips.

We need to distinguish the difference between SQ ****** and SPL ******. Me, I'm an SQ *****- which means I enjoy extremely accurate/"rich" music... not LOUD music. SPL, they like LOUD wall-and-ball rattling tunes. I didn't do my audio upgrades for my entire block, I did it for me.

I think it will depend on if you have the BLOSE system or not. If you don't have the BLOSE system then you should improve the sound. You will be able to control the sound to each of your four speakers right from your HU. If you do have the BLOSE system, then you may notice it still sounds like crap, because all of the equalization is in the Blose amp as already stated. That amp takes input from your four speakers and outputs to six with built in equalization.
Regarding wiring harnesses, you guys need to do a search man...
Here is what you need:
1. Nissan NN03 style wiring harness
2. Nissan Dual Prong Antenna adapter
3. If you have Blose system, recommend Scosche HU adapter FAI-3A
4. For Steering Wheel Controls PAC SWI-??? (??? portion is dependant on head unit you select, PS for Pioneer Sony, ECL for Eclipse, etc).
5. Year specific dash kit - get from grubbs or Yosi at J's Garage. It will include your new trim piece and a JDM AC Controller. Yes you need both.
