Finished the electricals tonight. I love the Kenwood! Impressed so far. I also got the HDD based Garmin navi and the new Kenwood tv tuner.
The SWI-ALP to be totally honest, is kind of disappointing for $60. I can see where people complain about the "lag" in the SWI-ECL units. It's not that the SWI-ALP lags in sending the commands, it's just that it lags in recognizing the button presses. If you press too short/quickly, it won't respond. And if you hold a button (such as the volume) it will pause and then repeat too many times.
I'll reassemble my interior and take pics this weekend.

It does play DVDs/TV and will do all navi functions while in motion. Interestingly, the navi has no hookup for VSS.

Also wanted to add that for those who aren't interested in navigation, I think pricewise the 6019 is a great alternative to the Z1. If you *are* planning to get navigation, I think it's much more of a toss-up between the two. The Pioneer has a better UI, it's all integrated into one unit, and will support voice commands.

HELP ipod + Steering wheel
I also am looking into the Kenwood DDX6019. I do not want to loose control from my steering wheel but i also want to integrate my ipod using the iP500 from Kenwood. Can both the Swi-x or Swi-Alp work with the Kenwood adapter? would you be able to change ipod tracks through the steering wheel? i know there are other threads about this subject elsewhere but any help on this specific unit would be very appreciated!

The 6019 is compatible with the SWI-X or the SWI-ALP. I'm using the SWI-ALP with no problems. If the iPod adapter can change tracks like any other input, I don't see why the steering wheel control wouldn't function with it.
I don't think there is native support for XM on any Kenwood unit. You'll have to get a separate add-on module unless you get navigation. The KNA-G510 navigation unit supports XM music and NavTraffic natively and also data feeds like weather and stocks, all in one interface.
