anyone remove stock XM antenna?

I got a 6MT fully loaded (seems like unless you order them special that's how they come) with the XM antenna on the roof. Anyone taken it off and moved it? Is it just double stick tape on there or is it screwed on? Where's the xm tuner and where'd you move the antenna?

TIA,
-Jon

Re: anyone remove stock XM antenna?

I had the Infiniti XM installed by Circuit City and I bought the newer version of the XM antenna. It is a little lower profile (smaller) and works even better. Plus the new antenna is magnectic. The one that comes with your car is double sided tape. It will pull right off. It may leave some tape residue, just use some wax to remove the residue. My antenna is on the trunk. I didn't want it on the roof. What ever you do don't put the antenna inside the car (back window ledge). It won't get good reception. Enjoy the XM radio, there is nothing better.

as mentioned you can pull it off. As for using wax to remove the tape residue, I don't think wax is going to cut it. After you rub off all you can with your fingers, use Bug and Tar remover to remove the remaining residue.

I have my antenna inside. I satisfied with the reception I get. Only time I drop out is when there is large wide trees above me.

I have a Terk XM3 (low profile) on the trunk. I tried the rear shelf but got bad reception due to my metallic tint. If you have the newer ceramic tint, you should be OK inside the rear window

i placed my antenna on the rear cargo shelf between the speakers and get great reception. very rare brief drop outs in certain locations (1 sec) but my wife gets the same drop outs in those locations and we mounted her antenna on the roof of her Tahoe.

Are the antennas for Sirius the same or do you have to swap them? I just called my dealer to change my order from XM to Sirius.

Re: anyone remove stock XM antenna?

I just took a look at the inside of the car. It looks like if I want to remove the stock xm antenna I need to remove the entire inside roof panel and half the panels in the car to get at the xm wires. Anyone do this? I did a search but didn't find any pics/instructions. Looks like a big job, at least for me who doesn't have the service manual.
