Resetting ECU before a race

Do you do this? If so, what is your method (i.e battery disconnect for 5 mins, 12 hours, something else?)?

How have your results been?

Finally, is anyone aware of a link to an in-depth thread on this topic?

Thanks!

This is actual link to ecu re-set post. it is useful bit of info to erase error codes whch are not related to real malfunction.

You're completely right. There's no use in searching for yourself and looking in threads that have already covered the topic of resetting the ECU. That button really probably shouldn't even be there when you get right down to it, huh?

And to add something constructive, from the reading I've done in those searched threads, it would seem that the G35's ECU actually learns over time, especially when mods are added to the car.

It's been debated but some think it's better to not reset, while others think it's better to reset after each mod.

I personally reset the ECU after any modification I perform, but I simply don't see the benefit in resetting before a race.

And the true ECU resetting procedures don't come to light until toward the end of the thread that was linked above. Here they are:

I searched.

I'm not interested in HOW to perform the process, but how YOU perform it, and what your results are... specifically in regard to racing.

The idea of a reset before a race would be that the car learns the street style of driving; whereas, I want the ECU geared towards performance. I drive like a grandma on the street--but not at the track. I don't want my first 2-3 runs (out of 4) to be at a reduced torque and lower throttle response. I'm interested in people's opinions who have experience with this in motorsports, hence posting it in this forum.

^ just get Osiris. You can have 5 maps which include the grandma map and race map, all at the toggle of a switch.

Hmmm, now I feel like running a test.
1) Do few 0-60 runs
2) Re-set ECU
3) Do few more 0-60 runs

Oh, no, since you are the OP, why don't you do it and let us know if there was any difference?

^ The wouldn't be a need. I know for a fact the myth is true. My initail runs at the track are ALWAYS slower even with decent 60ft times. My only conclusion is that the ECU is probably in "grandma mode" since I don't really drive so fast on public roads unless it's a canyon run.

What I usually do is either make a few WOT runs before the track, or if your track is like our here with barely any wait times, knock out a few runs early in the day. I usually do about 3-4 runs (takes about 15 minutes total at our local track to do 3-5 runs), cool off, then start my track day.

Well for an Automatic, I hear it will shift the fastest it can since it has no idea about your driving style, and I dont think you will get much from the engine.

I have resetted my ECU once, but I did not really look at the times ha, Ill try that next time.

Good stuff guys.

No Osiris tune for now as I am in stock category. That's a great idea for later.

I'd love to do some non-race testing but have no time for something like that. I'm a full time engineering student, plus I work a lot.

That's great feedback Jairen! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Unfortunately I can't do non-scored laps at the track to switch the ECU out of grandma mode since it's autocross. There is absolutely no fast driving allowed on or near the course before runs begin. I also don't want to go too hard on public roads before the event.

Anyone else have racing Experience with resetting the ECU?
