The BCM uses a matrix that is basically a squarewave. It's best to use an O'scope to monitor two wires at the same time (output vs input) to verify that the correct wires are being used.

That's easy enough (I'm a EE). I don't have an O-scope at home but let me see if my friend's $5k Snap-on meter does.

so $45 for something that is not in even the loosest sense of the term plug n play. Seriously I have installed aftermarket fog lights from scratch on several cars with less splicing and wire running than that. It has been a year. Any better options?

To my knowledge noone else has came up with a way to use the OEM switch to control the foglights independent of the headlights.

An aftermarket system is a bit easier to install because you don't have to worry about interfacing it with the OEM switch. Unfortunately, the OEM switch here is extremely complicated.

If you arn't worried about using the OEM switch you can add an aftermarket toggle and a relay to control the fogs - but you'll still have to tap in to both fog light control wires under the hood - and it would be a good idea to isolate them from the IPDM to prevent backfeeding the igntion circuit.

Can you edit the first post so we know what function each wire serves? Just a little comment like "Blue Wire - Fog Light Switch". I have a 03 Coupe and my IPDM harness doesnt look like that.

Thanks

KPtechnologies wire colors:

Blue - Matrix Input
Green - Matrix output

Yellow - Switched 12vdc
Black - Ground

Orange - 200mA (-) output to control relay

Relay:

85 - Coil (-), connect to Orange wire
86 - Coil (+), connect to Yellow wire
87 - Contact common, connect to 12vdc fused source
87A - Contact NC Output, connect to fog light signal from IPDM (fog light wire must be cut)
30 - Contact NO Output, Connect to fog light wires

The fog lights have seperate wires for drivers and passenger. Here, we are cutting BOTH wires and wiring both lights to pin 30 of the relay. Take one of the cut wires, on the IPDM side, and run it to 87A. The 87A connection is optional and really isn't needed. it is just there incase the module malfunctions or is removed to allow the fog lights to continue to work in the OEM function (head light dependent).

Thanks for the reply. I just sent you an email on your website to see if this can be used for a DRL setup.

I'm thinking about getting this module and I'm also about to install separate fog lights in the lower grills. If I wanted to be able to control my aftermarket fogs dependent on my stock fogs what wire would I tap into on your module to do this? Or to prevent me from possibly having to run more wires into the cabin could I just connect to the power wire for the stock fog lights on the back of the headlights?

You can't connect the new fogs directly to the old fogs - you will need to use a relay. Our module has a dedicated relay output that you could use to trigger your added relay, or you could just use the fog light signal to activate your relay. I, personally, would use the fog light signal to activate the relay as the added lights would still work even with the KPtech fog light module removed.

accordfreak you connected the yellow wire to the green (dimmer) wire so the fogs can only go on with the running lights? but if i was to connect it to a constant 12v wire, does that mean the fog lights can be turned on without the running lights on? and what is a recommended wire to connect to at that location (wire color)?

Yes, I'm doing an aftermarket projector fog light set up in the lower grills that I already have plans of using a relay for. That sounds good, I feel it would be easier to tap into the fog light signal to activate my relay. I guess that's what I will do. Thanks

mine is connected to a 12v constant. so my fogs turn on and off independently also with the car either on or off.
