DIY: Ballast Switch for 06 Headlight Upgrade
Would I be able to replace the OEM ballast with a 55w ballast? Would a 55w bulb/ballast combo damage anything?
This will be the ballast I will be using from www.retro-solutions.com (great place to get lighting)

Thanks a lot guys

why can't I replace the OEM ballast with an aftermarket ballast?
It's the bulb that decides the color/temperature of your light. There's no difference between the stock 35w ballast and that 55w aftermarket ballast, except that your bulbs will not last as long.
And there's a perfect place to put the oem ballast, on the bottom of the headlight housing.
You will still need it to close up that hole even if you go aftermarket.
If you want to change how your headlights look, you only need to change the bulbs.
To change the ballast you can either go thru the wheelwell (easy to access, kind of a pain to change the ballast.
Or you can drop the bumper and remove the headlights. Makes it easier.

You can replace the ballast by removing the fender wheel well covers. You will need one of those short stumpy screw drivers to get to the third screw on the ballast. Its real easy, no need to completly remove the head light.
