You have to place the socket inside the strip with the wires facing the sky and then twist the socket clockwise. It'll lock in place.

Edit: This was for the right wheel so it's probably opposite for the left wheel

I noticed a difference when installing the left light so it's probably not one way. Either way I got both to lock into place and they're good.

I had to replace out one of my Fog/High beam bulbs so I figured I would do a simple DIY for any new comers or anyone else that needs to replace a bulb in the headlight housing. My Car is an 04.......It has the clearance strip and the combination H4 FOG/HIGH BEAM Bulb. The 06 and latter have the city light and a FOG only bulb.

STEP 1.
Turn the wheel all the way in on the side your going to work on. Then jack the car up so the wheel is just about off the ground. Some take the wheel off completely, but I didn't think its necessary.

STEP 2.
Locate the philips head screw on the upper lip of the fender, and remove.

STEP 3.
Locate the pop up button type fastners on the wheel well lining. You will need to remove 5 of them. Two on the front fender opening

and two on the engine side of the wheel well. There is one more on the top of the wheel well that hold the front and back pcs together...this one needs to come off as well.

STEP 4.
To remove the fastners, use a flat head screw driver and simply lift up the center round portion and remove the entire pop up rivet fastner

STEP 5.
After removing the 5 fastners and philips screw, start separating the liner from the rear portion and pull it down to get access to the back of the Headlight Housing.

STEP 6.
Once the wheel well liner is down, you can see the back of the headlight...
The one labeled #1 is the clearance bulb, which is on a long black stalk. simply turn it a half turn and it will come out for bulb replacement.
#2 Is the housing for the HID Bulb. this is the same for every year.
#3 Is the housing for the Fog/High Beam bulb on the 03-05 models. On the 06-07 its for the Fog bulb only and I assume the city light is in this area as well, maybe on the lower side of the fog housing.........

STEP 7.
To get access to the bulb, unscrew the cover and remove from the housing.
Once you complete that, all you need to do is remove the electrical plug, and you will find a clip holding the bulb in place. Simply squeeze the two prongs together, and the clip will come out and release the bulb. DO NOT TOUCH ANY BULB WITH YOUR HANDS. Wear a pair of clean latex gloves to remove/install any bulb.
Reverse the steps for installation of the bulb, test them. then reinstall the cover on the back of the housing.

REVERSE THE ABOVE STEPS to reassemble the liner and your good to go.
This should give you a reasonable idea how to complete this on your driveway in less than 30 minutes.
Good Luck
would the same apply to an 07 fx 35
