Gotta Use A Spring Compressor..... Either Go Rent one or Take it to A Custom Shop and Pay them to switch them over.....

i got a spring compressor, the spring is fully compressed, im talking about the main bolt in the center of the shaft on top. nothing to do with the spring.

You're not alone!!

I've done springs for two different G35s now (I totalled the first one two weeks ago) and I haven't been able to get that nut off w/o using an impact (i.e. air) wrench even when the spring was pulled down clear of the rubber at the end of the strut.

The first time, I took the strut assembly (with compressor clamps still affixed to the spring!!) to a mechanic and asked how much he'd charge to remove the nut (he did it for free--took him about 3 seconds). The second time I borrowed a friend's impact wrench and air compressor. Only took me about 1 hour to do both front struts!

In the absence of that, I would recommend using a breaker bar and hitting it with a hammer. You'll need a small wrench to hold the bolt while you whack away at the nut, however. Otherwise the whole thing will turn as you pointed out.

What zimbo said.

You need an imact wrench. Just take your struts to a gas station and they will remove it for you for free. When you put the them back on, drive there and have them tighten them up for you.

Re: aaaayyyy, holy &$%#^

i finally got it guys, thanks for the tips, i ended up turning the whole assembly upside down and sticking the tip in a vise then sliding a open end wrench in and loosening the nut, was actually easy once i thought about doing it that way. i have an impact wrench but that didnt work they both still turned. the first side took about 3 hrs, the second only took 1.
