Brake Pads - question

I have an 2003.5 AT Sedan, and I need to replace my brake pads. I have a couple of questions before I proceed.

How do I determine if I have Brembo rotors? I am assuming I don't at this point, since I didn't see any reference to this in my manuals, etc. My thought is that the Brembo rotors came on the Coupes and the 6MT Sedans.

I am looking for quiet, dust free pads if possible. I am not looking for high performance pads, but I don't want anything crappy either. I have heard good things from some of my subaru owning friends about the EBC pads. Any suggestions?

I went through the same dilema a few months ago. I went with the EBC GreenStuff pads and their faux slotted rotors. My experience has been mixed. The rotors and pads were inexpensive and when installed they do work very well. The pads are much better than the factory pads in terms of dust. My big gripe with what I assume to be the rotors is that they are very noisy under use. It sounds like a train coming to a stop; its embarrassing for a car like this to be making those noises. Of course, it could be due to me installing them myself and not having them properly installed, but i've heard the same from a few others who have used them. In the future I will try another brand. Not sure if this helps or not.

Whoops, just realized you only need pads. In that case I think the EBC pads aren't too bad. They are very low on dust. Just stay away from the rotors.

Project Mu NS from www.projectnissan.com...
extremely extremely low dust...great stopping power...no squeal whatsoever...I just put them in a few months ago...so I don't know how long they will last. But I think they're great.

I second that, my Hawk HPS pads have been quite and pretty much dust free.

Much better than the crappy OEM pads

You do not have Brembo rotors. I went with the Akebono ceramic pads from Tire Rack and I've been very pleased with them. Zero noise, and it is hard to get used to not seeing dust on the wheels even after weeks have gone by.

WHats up everyone,

I'm in that dilemma of needing to change my brake pads, I have a 03 G35 coupe 5AT with 42k on it now. Its seems like the Hawk Hps pads seem to be pretty popular all around but will they work well on the OEM rotors? Or do i need to replace the rotors as well ?

Should work fine, but if you're using the same rotors make sure you clean them well and remove any brake pad deposit on them, I think you can just use brake cleaner to clean the rotors. After you install your pads, make sure you do the proper bed-in procedure: http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp...contents.shtml

An 03 sedan with 42K miles may need new rotors too because the early sedans had softer rotors. The only way to know is to have them checked for minimum thickness.

As for low dust street pads, I like the Axxis Deluxe pads that I have now. They are low dust and inexpensive.

And son't worry, you don't have Brembo brakes. No sedans came with them from the factory.
