I did change my front to the Hawks and the rims stay clean, now the back get dusty quick so I will replace those next weekend... The car stops the same and the brakes are completely quiet. I relly am liking these Hawk pads.

I want to bump this thread. Maybe Htownboy would like to comment as it's been a while.

I have a 5-AT, I don't race it and I'm willing to compromise some stopping in exchange for less or no dust.

Current pads and rotors were factory OEM and installed in July. They work great but like someone said, within 5 mile my wheels look like crap covered in dust.

Quiet and no squeal is also important to me. I read on another forum that you really need to heat up ceramics for them to work and not sure if that is true.

I just use the car for crusin', no abuse as far as slamming on brakes unless an emergency I guess.

Not quite ready to change pads but want to line up my replacements. The rotors are new and true. I hope not even to have them cut to keep the thickness.

If anyone want to comment on their experience looking for little/no dust and quiet performance, I'm listening.

Duralast Gold here from Autozone. I do not drive aggressively like I am sure most of you do. They stop great and I have NO brake dust from them. $40 for the front and $35 for the rears and lifetime warranty.

Good to know, thanks for the feedback. I'll be interested if any others wish to comment. The no dust has got my attention, are they ceramics? How about the quiet factor. The Infiniti OEM have a squeal sometimes with light pressure.

I too just replaced mine with Duralast Gold Ceramics...If that's how you're driving I think these will be fine. The price is excellent to 4 pads for $35...I will advise to bed in the pads after putting them on...I do drive aggressively or spiritedly at times and make some immediate stops and i will say they stop well IMO...

On these I have noticed slight squeal at low speeds but i didn't put enough brake squeal on between the shim and caliper. After i do that it should be just fine.

So that tells me you did it yourself. I read that it's the goop between the shim and caliper that is important to prevent the squeal.

Yes there is a light squeal at the lower speed from time to time. I drive the exact same way. Every once in a while I will get on it and I have noticed that the Duralast Gold stop just as well as the stock pads, are an excellent price, NO dust at all from them, lifetime warranty. I put them in myself and probably didn't grease them up as well as I was supposed to which is why I have a little squeal from time to time.

Axxis Ultimates are ceramic, are cheap, and work great, but they dust like crazy.

I heard about the Axiss pads...mynismo.com is offering those with their Stage 2 stoptech kit...i'll have to check those out...

The only reason i have the duralast's is b/c the dealer said i had 2mm left on my pads.... i knew they were low..but dayum! They proceeded to say 250/axle
ummm....NO! So as an interim solution i bought those and i'm so far happy with them...Rotors now are another story...anyone know how long they are supposed to last? Average? (Sorry to thread jack)

Oh and Bob..yes i did them myself...it was my first time ever doing my own brakes and i must say i'm quite proud...hahah...It's really easy

my rear rotors have lasted 58k miles and need replacing, fronts need to be turned but i just got a set of Hawk HPS pads f+r and was thinking of switching all the rotors out from ocautosports who apparently use Centric rotors (not sure if they are premiums) but a lot of users on here seems to have no problems with them and they are even cheaper than Stop Tech!

Ah, maybe a vote of confidence to do it myself. Funny, I'm just concerned about jacking the car. Seems to be lots of confusion where to place a floor jack for the front. Looks like everyone said to jack on the pumpkin for the back but disagreements on the front. Looks like I need a low clearance floor jack also.

As far as your rotor question, I understand you get one shot to cut the rotors. After that you need to change them.

I heard some folks on another board talking about Akebono Pro Act pads as being noise and dust free.

There you go Bob! I downloaded the service manual from this website and used it as a point of reference in addition to the braked DIYs. Also, be aware of the torque specs given in the service manual. Once you've gone through all that you're good to go! Good luck!

Now, thanks for the info on the rotor question. I've actually heard conflicting answers now. I heard you can turn it a few times just as long it's not at it's minimum measurements??

Anyhow, let us know how you make out with the brakes.

I got that info from the service advisor at Infiniti. I went there and quizzed him before I even bought the car.

You of course are probably right about the measurements. I just recalled the conversation and I'm pretty sure he said you can get one cut on the front rotors and several on the rear.

Don't believe everything your dealer servce rep tells you about what you can/can't or should/shouldn't do to or with your car. A lot of their motivation is to get your money. Dealerships make most of their money through service and used cars.
