prolonged driving on screeching brakes
I've been driving with busted rear brake pads the past month (Specifically driver rear). It screeches loudly when braking and has "scraping" sounds when driving. There is "sand" like dust coming out of the one wheel. I've ordered and received new brake pads and rotors for the rear, but I fear that there might be more damage than that. Anyone want to guess what else could be damaged.
Trying to get the car in the shop this week.

nahhh its just the brakes scraping angainst the rotors, since their is no pad it is basically metal scrapping on the rotor, and that dust is parts of the rotors on your wheels. Same thing is happenning to me too its the rear passenger, i just ordered new brakes and rotors too, by any chance do you have brembos?

Too late for the 03/04 warranty (3 year/36K miles) you will need new ones.
I would not spend a lot on brakes esp. for the rear. Get OEM or equivalent but stay with good quality not some chain 19.99 special.
Find a good independent to put on OEM brakes, should be cheaper than the dealer. You can find discounted factory pads and rotors at various online sites..even the ones advertising on this forum.

One of the rear calipers froze on my old infiniti I30, and i drove around with it for another 1-2 months or so, with it making the scraping noise as I drove around. That was a bad idea, becuase that sand-like material that is emitted is the rotor metal. That metal tends to pit the rims, and deposit into them (they are hot and when they deposit they are cold, and stick really hard to the rims and adjoining body panels). luckily my car was black, but my aftermarket rim was destroyed to hell. it sucks too because when it rained, that dust also rusted really badly just like ur rotors rust when the car sits in the rain. the rust stained my wheel then.
