No damage, it just engages your rear brakes.
I used to do that all the time in FWD MT cars to perform bootleggers. One of the first seriously fun tricks I learned when I started racing. It certainly doesn't help pad/drum/disc wear, but doing it occasionally won't hurt anything.
I remember also using it to brake after passing police when I thought I might be going to fast. Since it doesn't trip your brake light switch, it's considerably less obvious. Remember however, that over 70% of braking power comes from the front wheels due to weight transfer, so don't rely on the handbrake in emergencies. Also, don't do bootleggers unless you know it's absolutley safe.

speaking of the handbrake. you should ask your dealer to strengthen it. im going in next week to get it done. i swear that handbrake is weak-sauce man. even pulling on it on freeway proabbly wont do jack-nothing. the drifters can actually stop their rears from spinning with theirs. im jealous.

Bootleggers are quite possible and in fact much easier in a posi- or LSD RWD car (when it's powerful enough).
A bootlegger is doing a 180 turn either by locking the rear wheels (with the handbrake) or spinning them causing them to loose traction. You spin around a vertical axis between the front wheels. When done correctly, you can do it on a narrow two-lane road.
Generally, you make a short sharp turn one in direction, crank it hard in the opposite direction, then jam the handbrake or stomp the gas. Just before you face 180 you let the rears engage and you're done. I'm guessing booze bootleggers used this maneuver to get away from the police chasing them, hence the name.

I do it to my buddies quite often when they're driving my drunk *** home. I once did it right after we had gone through the gate at a military base.
