Problem with brembo brakes

Hey guys, this is my first post, i'm always on here browsing and this place helps a lot, and thanks in advance and thanks for the previous help.

I have a 03 coupe w/ brembo's, I changed the pads about a couple months ago to project mu ns. Last week i started to hear some grinding, brakes from the outside looked fine, and i knew couldn't be anywhere near getting worn out. But then after the brakes cooled off, i felt the rear side of the disc (front drivers side but on the inside part where you can't see towards the wheel housing) and there is a groove in the middle. I checked the passengers side and no groove.

So now it looks like I have to change pads again, turn the rotor, and if the groove is too deep, get new rotors too. Its funny because I made sure I changed the brakes early to not have a rotor problem, cause i've seen the rotors sell for $400+, but now I'm stuck with the same problem anyways.

I was wondering if someone knows what could have happened? Everyones reviews on the project mu ns brakes were good, so I don't know if thats the problem. Also, does anyone know where I could get the rotors for cheap just in case I need to replace? Aftermarket is ok... and I'm reading the forum of other people's aftermarket, but again I'm worried that I might have the same problem again... so should I go and spend the crapload for all factory (by factory brembo package) stuff?

Thanks again

I just replaced my pads with Project Mu B Force, I will check my setup to see if I have any grooves in my rotors (doubt it because I havent heard what you are describing.

Go to everythingg35.com and check out the rotors they have for sale. Or you can get the DBA 4000 slotted rotors (same as stillen slotted rotors, just less expensive than stillen)

Good luck

befor u go off spending money id take the brakes apart and look for any debris that may have gotten caught and check the pads to make sure they are nice and flat still(assuming they are) you can A just cut the rotors and be good with the same pads or just put it back 2gether with no cut and some good cleaning with a can of brake parts cleaner....but if the brake pads did come apart? maybe they have a warranty? if it has only been a few months...

Either faulty broken pads or debris like a small rock got in their during or after installation.

psdg35, thanks for that link... thats a lifesaver in case I do replace the rotors, because i was only finding em for $400+ in other sites.

in your guys opinion... do you think the "oem quality" rotors work good enough? I'll probably run through the forums for a post about them too anyways.

in my old car (lancer NON-evo) was a simple car and I always got these cheap aftermarket stuff just to get it to work... this is my first experience with a new car so been leaning heavily on keeping everything at least factory or aftermarket upgrades... aftermarket replacements, although sounds good and saves me money, i dunno just a little cautious i guess.

thanks, i will probably take everything off this weekend check if anything got stuck before i order anything or if they broke... I got the pads from mynismo.com and i remember reading somewhere no warranty's are enforced, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I'm thinking you got some debris, like a pebble, caught between teh pad and the rotor. It happens, and has nothing to do with the pad or rotor you used.

ok so i found the time to take out the brake pads... and i found... NOTHING... so i put it back together thinking maybe i knocked whatever loose in the process... but that noise is still there?!

well its only there from a cold start... after a couple hard brake runs, it goes away, and i hear it when making a hard turn (and no its not fender rub or anything)... right now i'm thinking its the shimmie? cuz i used the same one when i replaced the first time, and now after taking the pads out once its not really attached to the pad anymore... or does anyone have ideas of anything else it could be?

right now i'm just relieved i don't have to get new pads and rotors, all intact and that groove i found i think is just natural shape from the new pads... but that noise still sounds ugly

Did you use "brake quiet" fluid on the pads and shims? Some don't believe in it, but the service manual actually tells you to apply it when changing pads.

i just installed Project U slotted rotors and Bforce pads . Car stops great, no nasty noise.

Have you done any hard braking recently? Could've crystalized the surface of your pads if under some random stress and unusual cooling periods. It happens sometimes, although I don't know much about the Project Mu pads.

?? Try taking them out and scuffing the surface with a mild scuffing pad on a die grinder (like what you use to take gasket residue off with.) See if that works.
