Problem with removing lower caliper slide pin

Problem with removing lower caliper slide pin
I replaced the rear pads and resurfaced the rotors on a member's 05 5AT Sedan today. The factory service manual states that you should remove the lower slide pin and swing the caliper upward to remove the pads. However when I tried this, I could not remove the lower slide pin (I was only able to loosen it) as a suspension component was blocking the removal of the slide pin.
I am surprised that the factory recommends that I remove the lower slide pin to replace the pads--I think removing the upper pin and sliding the caliper downward is a better idea.
Has anyone experienced the same problem that I did? If so, what was your solution?
Thanks.

I just remove the caliper bracket with caliper still attached, and then remove the caliper pin. Make sure you loosen the bolts before taking it off though.
Not sure if you had a similar problem, but I found that I couldn't get a torque wrench on the lower caliper bracket bolt. I was able to barely get one on the caliper pin at least.
