drove on my e-brake....

Guys,
I had parked on a slope and so i had put my E-brake on, I didn't mash it down fully but only about half way. well i've only had the G a week and so i'm not used to the E-brake being a pedal down on the floor so i forgot about it when i took back off again. when i was driving i felt something wasn't right but still didn't realize the brake was on.

I drove about 2 miles to my next destination probably getting up to speeds of 45-50ish mph and when parked and opened the door i smelled brakes and immediately knew what i had done.

Have i messed something up bad now? i hope i haven't crystalized my pads or warped my rotors from the heat. it doesn't seem to be pulsing when slowing down or squealing (yet) but the rotors are shiny looking now in the back. crap! i hate that i've done such a thing. if i mash the e-brake down halfway or so the car still moves. I have to completely supress it to the floor for the car not to budge.

so what do you think?

the parking brake is located inside of the rear drum and not on the actual disk, so whatever you see on there is normal. You may have to readjust the parking brake if its not holding the car since you wore down some of the drum pad.

it will hold the car but i have to fully compress it to the floor.

+1 I think I did this the other day. ****ing dealer put the e-brake on halfway, just enough so I didn't notice it as I drove away from an oil change.

Look for my posts here, I just posted pics of the rear e-brake adjuster with the rotor off. But you adjust it with the rotor on. Also search Parking brake and it will net you a repair manual page for instructions on how to. Basicly, you take off both rear wheels, remove the rubber plug on the rotor and use a screwdriver to turn the star wheel to adjust the P-brake shoe clearance.

Yes. The rear adjusters are indentical. The main diff is MT vs Auto. MT = ebrake is hand actuated. Auto = ebrake is foot operated.

But everything at the rear brake assembly(where you will be doing the adjustments) are identical.

Here is a pic of the rear P-brake assembly with the rotor OFF. You of course will be performing the adjustment with the rotor ON.

Thanks!
It is still holding if I fully compress it so i may not mess with it unless it stops doing that even. I'm monitoring it now. I still can't believe i drove 2 miles with it on lol. doh!

If the pedal goes almost to the floor or if the handle goes almost all the way up before engaging the brake, you may want to adjust.

But you're probably okay.

BTW. The E-brake and your disc brakes are totally diff so you can't judge teh conditiion of the E-brake and it's brake SHOES via inspecting your normal disc brake PADS. Just a FYI
