I have a '06 G35 coupe...I was wondering if you removed and drained the OEM calipers, can you powder coat them? Has anyone ever done or heard of this?

^+1... G2 has basically any color you'd probably need.. just paint them...

 

I want them powder coated so they will resemble Brembos...I think they will look a lot cleaner than paint...doesn't the paint get dull and crack after a while? Powder coating sounds like it would be the best option...I got quoted $100 for all 4 calipers...

Exactly, why would you? You could buy a lot of paint for $100! And done correctly with the right paint it won't fade or chip!

 

So painting sounds like a trend. What paint did you guys use? Does it look just like the Brembo calipers do after it's all said and done? Does it look as clean? Just as brightly colored? Sorry, I'm a NOOB.

 

It is generally frowned upon to paint the stock calipers any other color than black or silver. They are not a BBK and do not look like one no matter what color you paint them. You can do what you want, but it is considered "rice" to paint them bright colors. I painted mine black and like the way they look. I put silver ebay brake decals on them and think it looks good without drawing too much attention to them.

 

So what paint is best?

 

G2 is supposed to be the best, but Duplicolor is easier to get (at least for me). They both make kits where you can apply the paint with a brush. This makes it so you can apply the paint with the calipers still on the car. Only problem with G2 is it comes with a hardener and if you don't have all of the wheels off and the calipers prepped it is possible it will harden in the can before you are finished. Other than that it is supposed to be a stronger paint than Duplicolor because to the hardening agent.

 

What a coincidence. I JUST did this last weekend. I only decided to do it because I had to paint my rotors since they were rusting really bad (Beware of "88rotors" on ebay). They came out pretty hot! I dunno about all that rice talk. I hate the term. It sounds racist. We ALL drive *** cars.

After just ONE NIGHT of rain...



After a few days...and THIS was not coming off folks, lol.

Those were taken with my blackberry so they arent the clearest and they are HUGE (sorry). But I have gotten 100% "that looks hot" approval.

The paint is HIGH TEMPERATURE paint (500Degree). You can find it at any autoparts store. The red was specifically for Calipers, rotors, etc. It came in the form of a kit for cleaning/prepping and painting. I used a brush for the red and spray for the black. The spray was so tight so there wasnt a lot of taping needed.

Less than $20.

 

you can also find 1200-deg-F spray paint from dupli-color as well, its their higher end engine enamel...i've used it numerous time with great results but thats because I took time to remove them, blast them etc...its all in the prep like any other paint.
