E-Brake Light problems

My E-Brake light will not go off on the dashboard unless I press it up with my toe while driving. The E-Brake works without any problems but the light is somewhat annoying. I took the vehicle into the Stealership (Bad Move on my part) and they said that it would cost 60.00 to fix it. I figured that it would just be something simple like a screw that needs to be tightened or some type of calibration of a sensor or switch since the light is working just seems to be off. After getting the car back the rep said that the 60.00 was to inspect my E-Brake system and they determined that they think that the Switch is bad and would charge me 170.00.

I don't know too much about it but it seems that the switch is fine it's the positioning of the switch that needs some work.

Has anyone experienced this or has some insight?

Thanks

iRik

I'm sure the e-brake light is tied into a simple switch. Poke your head under the dash and see if the switch is loose etc. Sounds like the travel adjustment on the switch is not correct.

The brake fluid might also be it. Not sure if it's tied into the e-brake warning light though.

The e-brake is a drum style setup inside the rear brake hat. It's not the same system and not part of the fluid level you check. Sounds like a switch issue to me.

Checked the Brake fluid...It was about a centimeter under the full line but well above the Min. line. I went ahead and topped it off to the full line...Light is still on. I think that ttrank is right it probably is the switch.

On a lighter note I received a call back from the dealership in regards to the survey that I had left them from my experience there. They have decided to refund my E-Brake Diagnostic fee and install a new switch at no charge. I will let you all know if it is the switch when it goes in for repairs this weekend.

It's the switch... Sometimes the switch starts to bind and stick. when it does, you get that brake light coming on. You can see it if you lie on your back under the dash and check right by the top of the brake pedal assy. It's a pretty easy replacement, but a little tedious and requires some body yoga to perform
