'04 sedan needs new pads and rotors (HELP!!!)
Please no one get on here and tell me to search, i searched a little and really didnt find too much..
so I recognized a "chirping" noise from my front right brake while pulling out of my school parking lot yesterday. it was a little worse, so today i went to express oil change and the mechanic there told me i need new front brake pads and front rotors. im somewhat ok with this because i cant stand my oem brake dust right now. but i have two questions
1) Is it normal for an '04 sedan to need new rotors at 39k miles!?!?! I know the stock pads suck, and they eat away at the rotors but should it really be this early?
2) What pads should i get? I've looked a little into hawk but havnt been ALL that impressed. ive read a few negative things about them on here. Can someone suggest a good set for me to buy...? PLEASE!!!
for me its no noise, no dust, long life > performance.
thanks guy!!

ok thanks for all the help.. i greatly appreciate it.. i just went ahead and bought new pads. i got wagner thermo quiet pads and slotted cross drilled rotors.
I have some Axxis Pads front and rear NEW ,for sale $50 shipped.
i installed brembos so never got around to putting them on the sedan.
It is normal at a 40 k interval , rotors usualy last 20 k. depending on how you drive.

My Endless Vita Nuova brake pads have been treating me good so far... changed out the stocks at 30 something k, and I have about 70k now. They bite good, make a little sound only during hard braking, don't dust, and so far seem to have a long life as it doesn't seem like I need to change them anytime soon.
Pad that last an agressive driver more than 30k probably don't meet oem initial friction levels. Not enough dust and wear means a lack of carbon in compound. Dust is your friend and generally proves the capacity of pads.
The only way you know for sure is to accurately measure 60>0 panic stops to the foot accuracy.

I hate to say it but I didn't realize that Express Oil Change is who told you that you needed new rotors and pads. You most likely did if they had never been changed (and I'm amazed they lasted that long) but I have been told (on other cars) by those places that I needed new pads and rotors and was no where CLOSE to needing them. That is a big ticket item for them to do so if you get a less than honest person, you won't always get a good prognosis.
I hate that we didn't have mine long enough to get out of the brake warranty and couldn't help you much.

Thanks!
^ I think I'm gunna be in the market for pads/ rotors as well. I hear an occasional squeak when braking.. I assume it's cuz the pads are running low, I will take a look and possibly get all OEM parts when times comes to making a purchase. How do you like those Wagner brakes so far?

hopefully the rotors will come in by friday so i will have everything put on nextweekend.
but apparently there is something special about these thermo quiet pads. all the guys at advance auto parts and also some other store near my house said nothing but good reviews for the pads. ill make a review thread on here about them, as soon as they are on and broken in
For 35 years BMW has been the pad/wheel dust KING, until Nissan decided to beat them in stopping.
In EU pads must dust to meet Government stopping regulations:
"European legislation came into effect September 1999 titled ECE R90 that stipulates that all brake pads sold for use on vehicles manufactured after this date must be tested and comply to R90 standards.
This test which involves taking each homologated vehicle used on the public roads within Europe and comparing the front and rear brake performance with the original parts to those of aftermarket offerings has closed the door to cheap and nasty imported brake pads throughout Europe.
The test includes cold and hot brake friction analysis and if a part has been approved to R90, it can be safely assumed that the product is equal to or better than original equipment product.
The brake pads are then marked with an R90 code number and a country code in a circle such as E1 for Germany or E11 for UK which signifies where the testing has been done.
EBC Brakes does all of its testing at the VCA (Vehicle Certification Agency) test facilities at MIRA in Nuneaton, UK. MIRA stands for the Motor Industries Research Association who have a high speed test track for conducting these tests which EBC Brakes uses on a regular basis. Compare this to some of the blanket approvals that have been obtained (or supposedly obtained) from some (shall we say) less scrupulous industry participants and it is clear to anyone with an engineering knowledge that the EBC Brakes method of testing is 100% reliable.
Factory Approval is part of the R90 process which involves engineers inspecting and accrediting the factory manufacturing the product before approval is given. "
Why is a clean set of wheels important? Does the cleanliness make you more money or give you more respect from a God or your Boss or Family. Do clean wheels keep you from being shot in road rage.
THERE ARE NO STANDARDS, zero testing for aftermarket pads sold in US.
