I bought my car about a year ago. The brakes were all replaced by the dealer when I purchased the vehicle. The brakes sound like a school bus every single time I stop. They have been this way for the past 10 months. I brought the car into the dealers twice and they machiend the rotors. This helps for about 100 miles, then the squealing comes back...worse. It has become unbearable...I can't drive with the windows down.

I believe I have stock brakes (non-brembo). They are plain, rusty, and ugly. My wheels turn black about 50 miles after washing them.

What would you recommend for brakes. I live in Wisconsin (so I need cold stopping power and nothing that will sacrifice my abs/vdc), I want low noise and preferably less dust. I don't race so I don't need anything fancy. A long life to the brakes would also be a plus.

Is this asking too much out of a brake?

What are you looking for? BBK? Pads? How much money are you looking to spend? For the price, you can't beat Megan Racing BBK. I have them and loooove them. They look great too

I hopefully wont need to go as far as a bbk. I don't race. If I had a 35 6mt or 37 I probably would save up for that set, but since I'm rollin on the AWD I can prob get beat by the 3.5 altima . I really just need something that performs as well as the stock brakes. I am more concerned about cold weather performance than high temperatures on the track since I have the luxury of driving in a foot of dirty snow 5 months out of the year.

If possible I would like to get by with pads/rotors.

Any ideas?

No problem man. But, thats why I recommended the Megan BBK because for $3,000, you get it all.

Slotted / drilled rotors and pads will run you about $1,000 - $1,200 I think. I guess that is a pretty big price difference compared to the Megans. Take a look at this site, I would order some rotors/pads here:

if you want to stay stock, look into into replacing your brakes with a set from an 05 RWD or 06 sedan. They were improved from the previous years, which had very short life and dust problems as you probably figured out by now. The newer brakes have less brake dust, a little bigger all around, and they last much longer. For some reason the X didnt see those brakes until 2006.

Sorry for all the questions, this is my first time looking into this with my '05 G35x. So my '05 x has the same brake system as the '03-'04 (non-x) G35?

Is it possible to put the '05+ stock rotors and pads on the AWD sedan (some rotors say "2005 AWD Sedan not included")? Would there be a downside?

yes you have the same brakes as the 03-04 RWD and 04X sedans. The brakes were improved for the 2005, but only the RWD model saw the bigger rotors and calipers. In 2006, both the X and RWD had the bigger brakes. You cannot get the 05 non-X or 06 brake pads because the calipers are different. You would need to get all the brake hardware from one of those models including new rotors and pads.

u can try changing the pads first. ebc or hawk possibly? i would try the apds before i did a whole bbk. especialy if your not racing.

New front rotors and Centric Posi-Quiet Organic Kevlars cost less than $600 INSTALLED at a reputable Chicago indie shop.

That might be an easier alternative. Also since I am in Milwaukee, it wouldn't be hard to drive down to a shop you recommend to have the work done.

I have a few questions on this option.

Did you only replace the front rotors/pads or all four?
Did you notice any significant reduction in breaking distance/power? (keep in mind I don't drive my car over 85mph [usually around 30-40 because of traffic])
How do they compare to the OEM in performance in the foot/wk snowfall we have had the last few years?
Does it have any effect on ABS/VDC?
You mentioned dust isn't a concern for you. How much dust/squeal can I expect out of this upgrade?

This is sort of a dumb question, but I assume it won't effect AWD (seeing as the brakes are a seperate)?

All pads were changed. Only front rotors were changed. Rear rotors were cut, but only by a very minimal amount. OEM rotor disc design is thin by specification to keep unsprung vehicle weight down. Front rotors had been previously cut when original pads were replaced under warranty at 22K miles by Infiniti.

Brakes aren't as touchy as OEM on light pedal taps but with enough pedal pressure braking performance is no less than OEM.

The Centric Posi-Quiet pads are free from any perceptible fade.

No difference from OEM brake pads in the white fluffy stuff.

I don't know anyone that LIKES squealing brakes for street applications so, NO, these pads don't produce excessive noise.

No black dust - a light grey dust (that matches wheel color) which easily washes off.

The shop I used is Casey Automotive. They have five shops in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The closest location to anyone coming from Milwaukee is in Lake Zurich, Illinois on US Hwy. 12 (Rand Rd.) just south of IL Hwy 22 (which exits west off of I-94).

There have just got to be good auto repair shops in Milwaukee that can put these on for you.
